My bike completely cut out on me last night while I was going about 80KM/hr. I pulled over and lifted the seat to find a very hot battery. I suspect the regulator cooked it but how do I know? What do I look at or test to be sure. Please be gentle, I'm new to bikes and not too mechanically inclined  Embarrassed

If it matters, it's an '89 with 13,000 kms. The current battery was installed in the spring of '09 when it had 4000 kms onit.

If the reg/rec is the original "finless" one as below, there's a good chance it's bit the big one.

Yup, that's the one Roll Eyes I should also mention that there was a "rotten egg" smell in the air before it happened. Now I just have to figure out which regulator to replace it with.

Hello mates!

Been reading lots of posts here, but I cant seem to find the one that I saw a couple of months about a better rectifier which came from a yamaha R model which works with our beloved CB1, but is a bit bigger and with cooling fins...

please point me to the thread.

thanks,
dhan
