I looked through the manual I had and it never said what "type" of bulb, it just says 12v 65/50w or something.  Is this type of bulb available in an autoparts store like AutoZone?  If so, what number/type is it?

I'm at work and I want to go riding tonight but both high/low beams recently blew up and this makes me sad Sad

Thanks for any heads up info.

It's a H4 standard car bulb.

Warning
Both bulbs going at the same time sounds like the regulator is giving out. Test the charging voltage. Ignoring it is a Bad Idea, as it will then take out your battery and alternator, and could take out various other bits.

Get a meter out, it should make @14.5v when >3k rpm. If it's making more than 15v, stop riding it. If you have to ride it, unplug the regulator and treat electricity like fuel - charge it each time you get home and be very aware you can run out. This is hard on batteries but not as hard on them as overcharging, which boils the acid and has very bad effects. Do this diagnosis then have a Search, there's loads of info on regulator problems including one very recent thread.

I'll have to admit that the reason I blew the low beam was as I was testing the carbs I had the bike jumped off my car battery.  You know how you can test a car alternator by unplugging the battery while it's running, and if it still runs the alt is good?  I know it's not good to do for a long time, but anyways, I did this on the bike and upon unplugging the battery I found out immediately why i shouldn't have done that.  Mistake, but it only blew the bulb from a surge.  Everything else was fine.

I'm pretty sure the high-beam blowing 2 weeks later (they didn't go at the same time) was because of the previous trauma.

I replaced the bulb with one at AutoZone and everything's going well.

I'll get a meter and check it anyways, I need one for my other project bike as well.

Ok so even though I rode around all day yesterday with the new bulb in, I just tried to go for a night ride and within 50 feet both high and low blew in the new bulb.

Regulator needs replacing, then?  No point in testing now unless there's something else it could be.

I got one of these: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=220622034885
