IF I COULD GET SOME KINDOF HANDLEBAR ADAPTERS THAT BOLT IN THERE TO RAISE THE BARS UP AND MORE COMFY FOR ME? ANYONE KNOW IF SUCH A THING IS MADE TO DO THAT? LOOKING FORWARD TO MESSIN ROUND WITH THIS SOME MORE AND SEEIN WHAT I THINK. THANX FOR ANY HELP! Welcome Scot. I think you will love the bike.
Some have drilled the top triple and mounted risers to install higher bars. If you check there are also some Hondas of the some approx vintage that have very similar style bars but higher. I believe the early VFR 750 (not 700) is one that will fit and raise the bars. It must have 41mm forks to work.
I sent an email. Maybe the whole group can check your bike for originality.

HEY THANX FOR THE RESPONSE. I ADDED A NOTE ABOUT THE PAINT CODE FOR THE BLUE VERSION IN CAS I WANT TO DO ANY TOUCHUPS OR ANYTHING? ALSO U SAY DRILL THE "TRIPLE" TO ADD RISERS? WHATS A TRIPLE? THEY DIDNT MAKE ANY STOCK OEM KIT TO SO THE HANDLEBARS OR ANY KINDOF WINDSHIELD ASSEMBLY? STUCK WITH AFTERMARKET? I PREFER TO KEEP THE STOCK HANDLEBAR ASSEMBLY SO MAYBE THE RISER THING WOULD BE GOOD? JUST BOLT IN SPACERS? UNFAMILIAR WITH THOSE. BEEN OUT OF CYCLING FOR A WHILE U CAN TELL!:) I HAVE DIALUP SO I WASNT CRAZY ABOUT POSTING A BUNCH OF PICS. NOT SURE MY SANITY WILL HOLD OUT FOR IT. BUT THE GUY I BOUGHT IT FROM SENT ME A TON OF PICS FOR IT THAT I CAN FORWARD IN AN EMAIL EASILY!:)

Scot
I am sorry but you will have to resend the pics if you used the email link on the board. I just realized that it was an outdated address. I updated it.
I had a quick look and I think that the easiest and neatest option for higher bars would be to find a set from an NT650. I think they have 41 mm forks, the bars are the same style so bolt right on and look close to original
The drilling I am speaking of is in the top bracket that holds the forks so you end up with something like this pic with a separate clamp holding one piece bars. There are several pics on the board with CB-1's with that setup.
The higher NT650 bars look like this. I am not positive that they are 41mm though. You would have to verify that.

Hi Scot,
Where abouts are you located? I have a Rifle Fairing that worked actually very nicely with the original headlight that I no longer need. I live in Vancouver and would be willing to part with it if you are interested.
Here is a link to what it looks like. Mine is black.

I checked out the pics Scot and the bike looks pretty complete and original. Only things I picked out as missing or changed are the grips obviously are not oem. If you are fanatic, they often come available on ebay as NOS. The only other thing I see is there is a small rubber stopper missing from the centerstand. Without it the centerstand can vibrate and make a little noise like mine did till I replaced the rubber piece with one I got at an antique car flea market. Suitable ones are easily gotten at trim shops or auto supplies.
The value of the bike is also fairly dependent on the tires as well. On the tire is a molded in DOT and a box with a numerical code. If the tires are pre-2000 it will be a 3 digit number indicating the week and year. Mine were still the original tires when I bought it and had 129 indicating 12th week of 89. If the tires are post 2000 they will have a 4 digit number indicating the week and year.
On your bike they obviously still have lots of tread left but when were they made?
Edit: Ok everyone is going to be saying how did you spot the rubber missing from the centerstand. It was from this pic that I didn't post.

Scot,
The only thing I noticed was the bar end weight on the right side handle bar, its missing. Other than that, from the pics, it looks good! It doesnt appear to have been on the ground at speed. The paint nics on the tank could have come from who knows where. The little group of nics on the tail piece?? Who knows... I doubt those were from the ground at speed as well. edit(I just realized that those nics are right above the helmet holder)
Check the sidewalls on the tires for any dry rotting cracks. If those happen to be the originals, there maybe some. Check all visible hoses for dry rotting cracks as well. How thick/thin are the brake pads? Whats the condition of the oil? How does it run? Does it idle nice and smooth? When you turn the throttle, does it rev smoothly up to redline? Whats the inside of the gas tank look like? Any rust? Is the original tool kit still under the seat? Was the little manual included with the bike? The paint code is 09704-B131P. Honda calls it Pearl Presto Blue. Personally, I like Smurf Blue
Looks good to me
It appears to have been well taken care of. Was the seller the orignal owner? 12K+ miles on an 1989 isnt alot of miles. Safe to say its been sitting for quite a while at some point. Sounds like you will give it the love it deserves
I think what you are asking for it would be fair considering its in pretty good shape.
Welcome!
Do you have any nice pics of your Nighthawk S? Its been awhile since I have seen one of those. What color is yours? The CB-1 blue and black was my favorite!

One more little thing missing. There is a wire wrap around the coolant hose on the left side of the bike that is missing.

it may be the photo but the right side mirror looks different no?
good looking bike, here in vancouver, canada, it seems in that shape, running well, with decent tire, it should sell just shy of 3k in my opinion

If you're stil looking for the paint code OP, it's written on a sticker on the frame under the seat, at least it should be.

thanx guys for the info and listing my pics!. seems like i got a good above average specimen? yeah i too thought the mileage was a little low but im not complainin!:) not sure of its past. i know this guy i bought it from kept it in a heated and air conditioned garage. it looks like thats probly the same kinda life it had before him! hes sending me the manuals. not sure of tool kits existance or anything cuz i couldnt find how to open the seat up! thought there should be a low fuel indicator but i guess not? tells u the kickstand is down but not that yer runnin out of GAS?
i think that may be a problem as i ran it out of gas yesterday but the tank was danged near full! when i got it it was on reserve so i asked him if he knew about the problem or not. doesnt seem normal to me, id be stoppin to top it off constantly! runs great. i had to look down i dont know how many times to varify it was running. its sooooo quiet and idles at less than a grand? mirrors match and everything seems in awsome shape and running condition. no rust. no complaints. kinda reminds me of a turbo car. it just kinda slugs along up to 6 grand or so but them u hit 8 grand and the turbo kicks in!:) cool that it has a cooling fan on the radiator. seems very efficient. there is some slinky material wrapped around the cooland hose. i like the look but dont know if its original or not. gotta stop at a bike shop to see if can getthe other grip screw in end. hoping thats not specific to this bike and easy to find? no vibrations underneath from the jack stand. would be interested in finding the rubber nub tho to put it on there. as far as the handlebars i was hopin for some aluminum spacers or something simple. dont think i can afford to go buyin new handlebars for it. not sure all the cables have enuf slack either. might be a money pit project!:) he told me the tires r 3 months old and i think i remember them sayin bridgestone so im assuming they r not original. yeah my nighthawk is the blue version. my favorite as well. dont think i have many pics of it oddly enuf. found one from the day i bought it but its startin to show its age, fading stickers and all the tail light posts r rotted in half. will see how my financial situation proceeds this winter. i mighgt like to keep them both but dont know if thats practical............scot
