i don't have a key for the cap that's on the tank. i haven't been able to find a straight replacement. does anyone know of any options here? other honda caps that might fit? aftermarket? some kinda universal cap that doesn't need a key?

thanks in advance.

Take your ignition off the bike into a locksmith and they can make a new key for you, if the tank  is the same key as your ignition. You can try removing the tank emptying it, and taking it in to see if they can pick it and make a new key if it is a different key.

there is no ignition, this bike hasn't been on the street in many years. i suppose i could take the tank to a locksmith, though i did try to force the lock open in a moment of frustration. i guess if i can't find a replacement cap i'll have to give the locksmith a try.

thanks Dave.

wow, $140.

i don't see any reference to a cb1 application. the implication is that just about all honda caps are the same. i wish i could verify that, i could pick something up off ebay with little problem, i imagine.

yup, i agree the best and easiest option is to have a locksmith make a key for it. here in the philippines i know a local locksmith who can make a key just by looking in the key hole. he'll make in 2minutes or less and only charges $4 at most. too bad your not in the philippines

All the 7 bolt caps fit. If you are also after an ign switch there are tons of ign/gas cap combos on ebay with key. The ign switches might not be exactly the same but could be made to work. Any early 90's CBR, VFR would be the same gas cap for sure. The price is very reasonable for them as well.

yeah, i'm in NYC. nothing is cheap here.  Roll Eyes but that's great news about the honda caps. and thanks for the links, Clark. i'm not bothered about the ignition since this bike is only likely to see track duty. but the price is right on those caps.

thanks again for the replies!

A word about using the ignition to have a key made for the fuel cap - this doesn't always work. There are quite a few Japanese bikes where, although they share the same key, the ignition and fuel cap have different locks so having a key made from the ignition won't always work on the fuel cap.........and visa versa.
