hey dudes-

so i got the carbs back in...picked up the snorkels which were missing but the choke is not working anymore..pretty sure i secured the choke cable at the carb end wrong... but here is what i've done to change it....can you check my work b4 i put everyone back?

1. LEVER all the way up (choke off?)... no tension on the choke cable
2. LEVER all the way down (choke on?)....tension on cable and carb lever pulled to the LEFT (facing front of the bike)

Mine starts without the choke.  Except when it doesn't start, which has nothing to do with the choke.

A fellow Paddy nice to have you on board, what's stoppin it when it doesn't start? what part of the green isle are you from?
Because of the bullet proof substance of the engine you don't exactly need to use the choke, but you will find that by using the choke and letting it warm up properly it will treat you alot better when you're ridin it. i was talking to a guy who used to race a CB-1 here in Ireland and to warm up the engine before each race he'd just turn it on, no choke (less weight) and rev it up to 12,000 revs for a minute from cold and still take it around the track without a problem, he did this in every race and he was just amature so it wasn't like he was swappin a new engine into each race either!

I'm from Mayo.  Some mornings it won't start. It feels like the carbs are flooded. If I leave it, it will usually start later in the day, which is fine unless I want to use it to go to work.  Once I had to take out the plugs and clean them and charge the battery.  I found it turned over a lot quicker when the battery was charged up which makes me think the battery might need replacing. A low battery would generate a week spark, I think. Out from that it's great.

A fresh battery and spark plug change will make winter startin alot easier, look into a new reg/rec aswell if you have the OEM still on the bike it'll need replacing sooner or later anyway

Yes. Where would be the best place to get the reg/rec you mention and is it difficult to fit? I was planning to get the plugs and battery in Halfords - that's of course if the have them. Thanks.

choke is one useless part on the -1! at least on mine, i never got to use it. the bike starts all the time with out it. i installed a superbike handle bar kit on my -1, all cables needed to be replaced with longer ones, i did not bother looking for a choke cable as i never used it and hope i will never need it
