Guys

I had my bike running from the first carb overhaul but it was rough idling when cold and it was suggested that the idle jets needed a re-clean. I tore them off and resoaked and cleaned both jets and put them back together, and now she doesnt start at all. Not only that, but I was getting whoosh sounds from the carbs after I let off the starter, a couple of carb back fires and a couple from the tail pipe.

Needless to say I have gone backwards. I am guessing they need to come off yet again, any thoughts on how this could be?

thanks in advance

Are all the rubber boots between the head and the carbs good and secure?

Sounds a little like air might be getting in after the carbs and leaning the mixture out.

guys

no i didnt pull the plugs out or the leads to them
no there didnt seem to be any spaces or looseness between the airbox and the carbs or the carbs and the engine.

i bypassed the fuel pump tonight, to no avial, same results
Thinking of trying the ether(although I have none, must have used it all up going as Hunter S Thompson last halloween) I noticed that one slide is not quite like the others. It doesnt slide up and suck back down like the other three, its the second from the left staring from the top of the bike facing forward. Also, I tried cranking it with the airbox off, and it seemed to have the exact same results as with it on. Also, the slides dont move when cranking, but I assume thats normal?

also, it didnt seem to suck in any fuel when the fuel is hooked directly to the carbs.

all in all, not great. I am tearing them off once again, to have a good look at the one diaphragm and also the needle it slides up and down on.

any other suggestions are welcome, especially smart ass ones hernz!

Are you gettin petrol into the carbs, takin off the fuel lines and tank, especially if it's old and has not been cleaned out could have dislodged some plaque or rust that's blocking your fuel lines, fuel petcock, fuel filter fuel pump etc etc, if your lines are old it might be worth replacing them, cleaning out your petcock, tank filter etc etc
