11.5 litres (3 US gallons)

Seriously, what bright spark came up with that one?
Still, at least I was only 1 mile from the nearest petrol station. Surprising how far that can seem
One day, when I have swapped to spark coils and made a load of space in the engine bay, I would really like to extend the tank under the seat. Can you imagine how far you'd get on... hmm, now let's not go crazy... 15 litres (4 US gallons)?? My XJ600S - whilst being a miserable excuse for a motorcycle in almost every possible way - had a 17 litre tank and would happily turn in 56 (uk) mpg - a whopping 210 miles per tank. That may be the only thing I miss about the old barge, but I do miss that about it.

Feel for ya Morti...been there and done that
Used to own a 95 Neon and the fuel gauage didn't work. Missed judged the headwind effect on mileage while driving SEVERAL times! My worst was half way across Saskatchewan, a barren wasteland consisting of thousands of square kilo's of farmland, when I ran out on the highway. Had to walk 45 mins to the nearest farmhouse, but fortunately he had some gas for me to purchase!

I live in a small country and the distance between towns are 60-80kms.100kms is the farthest one
when I am on the highway I do 150kms (thats top for my 15-41gearing) and can only go for 75kms untill i switch to reserve
I have seen 1lt containers looking like nitrous oxide bottles that are fitted on choppers for an extra fuel supply
we could all go that way

This is one of the only downsides I've found to the bike....I love it, perfect around town, silky smooth and manouverable...but god darnit, I can't get over 110 miles to a tank!!! I flick onto reserve after about 80 miles.

I reset the trip counter and try to fill up again after 120kms. I'm getting 48-50mpg most of the time. I went for a ride around North Wales earlier, my first decent ride that wasn't either to or from work, and the first time out since giving her a new set of BT45's and a service. I don't ride fast but it was still fun

It's a great part of riding a cb-1, not-fast feels like quite-fast!

It does feel quite fast, until you get a group of bikers out for a ride that just blast past you. I think part of it's confidence though-I'm still getting stuck behind cars without the balls to overtake but I need to know she'll do it first. It was great to get her out on the twisties though!

Check the final gearing. Mine has 15/37 and often feels like it won't make a gap. 15-41 is JP model and makes the bike feel a little nippier. Other than that, be sure you're in the right gear at all times!

She's running 15/40 and if you get her fired up she is quite nippy and it probably is a confidence thing, it's my first bike after passing my test so moving up from a Yamaha 125 it's a learning curve, but I'm glad I didn't go straight for a 600, I'd rather ride safe than fast.
The ride out today was more to make sure I was happy with her after giving her a service over the last couple of weeks and she's running well now, going to replace the brake lines & pads next.

Best pads are OE spec nissins, available at your dealer or davidsilverspares. You also won't go far wrong with Kyoto but avoid Armstrong like the plague.
Always pump pistons out fora clean when changing pads.

Any tips for improving gas efficiency? I hit reserve about 75-80 miles, then put in about 2.3 gals to top off. Barely better than my 86 Crx Si... I hear ninjas 250s get 60+mpg all day long

Ninja 250s are amazing on fuelled and have a massive tank, so the range is impressive. But they'll struggle to top 90mph - well the 1990ish one I had a months use of would anyway.
You should be able to get 85-90miles til reserve, start with the usual stuff, eg check tyre pressures, are brakes binding, wheel bearings and chain ok, then look at your riding style - gas and brake smoothly, change up sooner, all that dull hyper miling stuff.
Finally, consider pulling the bike apart for new air filter, valve check, carb clean etc.
Sorry bud, these bikes are no 250's. In fact I got much better fuel economy from my old 600 diversion (seca 2) but it was a dog to ride.

I got to 108 miles before changing to reserve on the last fill-up. That was mostly two-up hooning around the countryside, using all the revs. The mph speedo with 15/37 gearing is pretty close, so converting to "real" km's, it's about 170km. That'll do me.
