Hello all, Just got onto the forum.
I have been poking around looking at other peoples rides, getting ideas on playing grease monkey, and coming to the conclusion that well, at least I am not the only CB-1 Junky out there.
I just bought my 3rd CB-1 a couple months back. This one is an 89 and has 11,500 on the clock. It's just breaking in!
My first "Blue Meanie", I got when I was a motorcycle messenger in San Francisco. No other bike could weasel it's way through the metal rat traps that people sit in day after day to go to their boring jobs, the way that lil' CB-1 could.
The tight lines, throw around weight, and park anywhere were just some of the benefits that first struck me.
A car speeding out of a parking lot took that bike away from me, and left me with a sore groin and ego.
Some years passed and I picked up another from someone leaving the country and selling all his worthy belongings on craigslist. This one was good lil' fella that had 26k or something and had been matt blacked for that city look.
It was a great geta-round town bike that once took me all the way from San Francisco to Portland Oregon-
- via the coast
- in one sitting
900 miles , 14 hours, only stopping for gas and food.
Don't ever let people tell you that 399cc is too small to do anything.
Regretfully, I had to sell that one to make rent in a crappy post .com era. I wonder where it is now....
And on to my last project. Again, someone leaving the US and selling all their belongings. Maybe someday, I will understand why.
In the mean time. The smile is back on my face. One test ride around the block after running and bump starting it.
I look forward to picking al yall's brains about playing grease monkey, and maybe even meeting up for some rides. you do ride these motorcycles right people? I know it's hard when you want to play on the computer all the time and look at other bikes.lol

I am with ptl on that. I really like the silver with the decals. The small bar end mirrors are a nice addition as well. How do you find them as compared to the stock ones? Looks like a good find. Enjoy!!

The bar ends ok. A bit small, but that is what I was looking for. They serve more for quick merge glance, since I turn my head anyway.
I like the paint as well. Some one did a really nice job. I don't know if you can see it, but they masked the decal with an extra 1/8 inch. Preserving the original blue tone for a touch of class.
I'm thinking of throwing one of those blue o-ring chains they have on eBay to accent it even more. Anyone know the quality on those?
The bike sat for a year, and I'm getting it all up to speed on non riding days.
In the meantime....
New fuel line, air filter, blinkers, mirrors installed
Tires are fresh, carbs a little slow untill warmed, cluster works(but tach light is out), a little front end shake at high speeds(wheel balancing?), I'm thinking maybe a new can at some point(hard to find aftermarket?)

actually that blue in your decal is printed on the decal from the factory. as for ebay chains, id only spend my money on a name brand, o-ring chain. i found an RK 120 link oring chain recently for 50.00 on ebay i snatched up quick.

note to self... Before buying 520 O ring chain, Make sure that PO didn't do 525 conversion! DOH!
Ended up paying retail for replacement after shop cut off old one.
To Make myself feel better after the mistake, I put some new iradium plugs and did an oil change. What are most people running oil wise?
and...
How long does it take to replace fork seals and dust caps? We are in between weather spells here, and may want to tackle it as opposed to pay the shop.

525 is standard chain size!
Oil? Whatever 10/40 semi-synth the shop has in cheap.
Fork seals are easy enough to do. Take your time and you should get it done in a couple hours. You will have a hard time without an impact gun to remove the bolt in the bottom though.
Cb-1s are getting on a bit now. Consider changing the bushings out too as if they're worn then your new seals won't last long. Takes almost no extra effort once you have the forks apart anyway. Plus then you have the old bushings to use as a drift on the new ones.
