CB1 parts value
«
on:

I bought a non-running CB from a guy about 3 years ago. He claimed it was an electrical issue (CDI) so I got a new CDI and had it running but it would die if you gave it gas. I have quite a few bikes, so I just didn't mess with it. He had put a full fairing on it when he bought it and put a bunch of parts in a box. He gacve me the box and I stuck it in the corner. Well, somebody is interested in the bike so I puklled the parts out to see what they were. Here is a pic of them. He wrapped them up and they look like brand new. I am not trying to make a killing, but what do you all think they are worth. I am a WERA racer so I'm looking to help out my racing budget. I'll post a pic of the bike too.

Looks good with the full fairing! The clashing colors made my eyes hurt though.
Do you know what company that fairing is made by? Im pretty sure thats a CBR400 set.
Those parts do look pretty new. My guess is someone will purchase them from you soon. I think someone was just looking for those side plates...
What region of WERA do you run?

I run the Mid-Central region. I know you guys get tired of hearing about them, but I went to the dark side and bought 2 FZR400's. I still haven't raced one yet. My other bike is an MZ Skorpion. Here's one of my FZR's.

And this is the Skorpion. I ran it last year, now my son does. So as you can tell, I need race money, so the CB1 has to go.

Looks like an original set to me, from an nc29 (gullarm).
edit:
actually it's neither cbr400 nc23 nor cbr400 nc29. Maybe it's from a 250? That would explain why the alternator case sticks out "too far".
Fits well enough though, and would look top with a paintjob.
Bike is worth more as an original - if you have all the parts and the interest to convert it back, then you can also sell the fairings.

I love the Skorpion!! It looks terrific and certainly nothing wrong with the FZR either. It is another of the fairly rare and cool bikes like the CB-1. Good luck with the racing.
As far as the pricing of the parts. It is very difficult to fix a fair and agreeable price on many of the parts. There are many parts listed on ebay for very long periods of time because the sellers think that a rare bike like the CB-1 should fetch a premium price for all parts.
The signals for example are common to many period Hondas, are available in aftermarket knock-offs cheaply and just don't get much of a return. As well there are some people who want smaller aftermarket ones. The front closer panels are fairly readily available and are listed in the $20 + ea range.
I just bought a mint headlight, bracket and two front signals only one of which was good for $30.
Service manuals sit on ebay forever at $40 + but usually sell at $20-$25.
The rest of the stuff I just don't know what to suggest.
The mirrors I would like dibs on if they are really mint. PM sent.

Clark,
I'll get back to you towards the end of the week on your request. I have a guy that claims he is going to buy everything from me (bike too) but he's a bit flakey so I'm giving him till the end of the week. I'll still send you a better pic of the mirror.
Thanks for the info on parts pricing.
And as far as the fairing on the bike, I'm almost positive it's an Airtech CBR400RR fairing. The previous owner was an engineer (aerospace, I believe) and he designed and installed all the mountings. (his paint job too, not mine!)

I use to run WERA's North Central region, but only at Grattan. "D" classes. I raced against an MZ Scorpion back in the day. Use to whoop on him! lol Then the guy bought a Aprilia RS250, and spanked me a few times when he got use to it. Cant say Im a fan of the fzr's. Yours look very nice! Some of those I could beat, but there were a few with close to 70 bhp! I didnt like them...

Hi rd400 racer,
I'd be interested in the headlamp and bracket if you still have it and would like to sell.
Thanks!

wow - never imagined that a MuZ Skorpion could ever make it over the big sea???
I ever thought that they just were sold here in Germany locally because MZ, MuZ (the "u" was just because of some Name-Right-Problems - now it's MZ again) has never a big market after the German Wall falled down.
Do you have the Racing-Full-Fearing for it? Ore at least the Half- Top-Fairing ?
Mhhm i really need to by a Skorpion once a Day and store it - just becaus they were build 10km frm where I life...
