so here goes
Hi
only just got my cb1 a couple of weeks ago, but allready made some changes. Lots more in mind to do.
heres a pic of my 1996 cb-1. I have a feeling it may have belonged to someone on this site at some point.

Welcome to the site and nice paint job. Unless you have found some mystery bike I don't think you have a 1996, they were only made until '93.

Like the tail lift. How did you do it? Tip: If you fit a sidestand off a 92-9 cbr900 it's about 20mm longer and you won't need to carry a bit of wood around with you
Good idea covering the dummy screw in the side panel, I'll steal that eventually.
I had a little stubby can on my old -1 for a while. Looked nice but gave me headaches! Is yours baffled?
Personally I'm not so keen on the streetfighter style of headlight and bar end mirrors, but that's just me.
Keep us up to date with pictures

Hi, I am not keen on the headlight (just posted a wanted ad for a standard headlight) as for the bar end mirror...had them on most of my bikes as you can actually see behind you rather than looking at your elbows/shoulders + I hate conventional mirrors they look like micky mouse ears
.
As for the sidestand I think i will need more than 20mm on mine, just going to cut in half and add a section, probably needs 30mm minimum as my bike used to lean a bit too much for my liking at standard height
. need to sort this soon though as i need to have a pal handy when filling up.
Rear is jack up via modifing the bottom shock mount, was going to weld a brace on the swingarm while i was at it, but thought i would leave that job for later.
I cannot take the credit for the paint job as it was how i bought it but is a quality job whoever did it.
Baffles? what are they, no its not too loud actually. I like a bit of noise, the standard pipe is way too quiet, i like people to hear me comming especially volvo drivers!!!
Only had it a couple of weeks, so only managed to change the exhaust and rear end so far... lots of ideas for the future
Mike

Still go with the CBR stand, it might be long enough but if not it's just a metal tube so much easier to cut n shut.
So, apart from the headlight, what's next?

nice -1! you said you dont like the headlight...hard to tell from ther pic, is it a dual setup? if so, once you find a stock replacement, i might be interested in taking it off your hands if the price is right...would have to ship to the U.S. ...

yep its a dominator headlight, in poor condition though - rust spots. To be honest i think the post to the us would be more than the light is worth. These can be picked up quite cheaply new at around £40.
my aim this year is to get a headlight and ride the thing, when winter time comes. i will be looking at some different wheels, swingarm & forks. Looking at going up to at least a 160 on the rear. going to keep the engine as is, just because I've had a few cam driven geared 400's and think the engines are superb.

When you get there I can help out with fitting an nc29 'arm. I can tell you for free, you can't fit an nc29 wheel into a cb-1 swingarm. Well, anything fits with a big enough hammer, but you'll struggle as the sprocket nuts will hit the swingarm and the chain won't line up.

I suspect the cbr6f2 wheel is the same but with a different sprocket carrier. I don't know this for a fact but suspect it's likely since Honda loves part-sharing.
nc29 arm details here:
http://hondacb1.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=CB1Discussion&action=display&thread=130
except that this second time I've done the conversion, me and my dad worked out that if you flip the linkage upside down, grind a tiny bit off then it wedges in at the perfect angle to give about a 1" or 2" ride height lift. With a 160/60 and 120/60 you can just about still use the centre stand, which is very useful since you'd have to remove the swing arm to change the shock.

quick update, just got hold of my wheels that I am going to fit. I have got hold of a nc29 front wheel and a cbr600 4.5 inch rear wheel. I went with the 600 wheel mainly because it means i can replace the wheel bearings and retain the cb1 17mm spindle and caliper carrier. I have yet to fit it up but.... i know a guy who has a cbr6 and have taken measurements (disc and sprocket spacings are a perfect match) and think it will be pretty straight forward. I have done a good few wheel swaps in my time and know things don't allways go as smoothly as you'd hope......
....... they should be fitted for the weekend .......................watch this space
still need to sort out this dam sidestand

another update....
rear wheel fitted and working, I managed to get it all fitted before the weekend, so might get time to fit the front over the next couple of days......A even simpler job
I found the swap fairly straight forward. depends on your level of competance and more importantly patience. A little bit of hassle for me might be toooo much hassle for the next person. I am pleased with the results even if the wheels are odd colours and will require powder coating, but with good tyres on they will remain that way throughout the summer until winter, when i am sure I will have a bigger pile of bits to coat.
Got a few more ideas and mods to make before then, but the bike seems to be shaping up quite nicely.

With fitting the CBR F2 wheel did you have to modify anything to make it all fit together?
