Well it happened. was looking for cheap reliable transportation to go to work on to save miles and fuel from burning through my truck.
Was looking at a lot of beaters in the $1000-$2000 price range.

Then it happened, ad for an 89 cb1, 11,480 miles, flat slide carbs and excellent condition. asking price $1000.

called like a madman til I got a response, hooked the trailer and went to check it out last night.
it was there and the title was clean however there are a few negatives.
It has been down, left case and lever ground and rear cowl cracked.
good tank and overall decent. The big prob is it had been sitting in a Shed for 5+ years and had not been stored properly. could barely get it and keep it running, just enough to check the gears.all fine.
BTW I mentioned the tires looked low, yeah at zero psi both ends  Shocked they were a little low!

Anyhow $950 and a push up my trailer and it now sits in my garage.
I figure with about $250-$500 it will be a good running relatively clean bike for the money. not to mention way cooler than anything else in that price range.
Had many a bikes in the past, Nt650, and a Bandit 400 to name a few so only natural that a cb was destined to be mine.
I am sure you guys will be seeing a lot from me as I ask cb specific questions.
First question; Are there any quirks or things I should look for that may need attention other that the obvious like tires and such?
and if I do it right here are 2 pics from last night when she came home to be revived.

Hi Brianut
Looks like you got a quite reasonable deal on the bike. I'm sure you'll enjoy it a lot when you get it fired up and running good. It looks like the tank on it is from a 90' or has new decals as the 89's had black decals. What is the build date on the id plate?

Good luck with getting it going. Keep us up to date on your progress.

Well it had been down, not hard  but down none the less.
so the tank is a 90 as the vin and sticker are 89.
no biggie though as I like the 90 tank a little better, also it wont bother me as much to tweak it here and there since it is not all original.
I passed on a very cherry 89 hawk about 2 weeks ago, total showroom perfect and unmolested, priced fair too, but I had to pass cause I would have been torn to leave it stock and perfect or go crazy on it.

this one is gonna get some goodies, seeing how the tank and carbs are not original it wont bug me to add change stuff as much to a somewhat rare bike.
looking at some f2 front ends on ebay already, checking options for signals and taillights, already yanked the stock mirrors,
guess I should get it running first eh!

I will try and keep updating as I go along with pics and write ups.
maybe MIA for awhile though as I have a new baby due within the month, and I am trying to get my basement finished b4 she gets here.
Very busy.
Thanks for you guys being here as getting info on the -1's is getting hard to find.
Lets keep them alive guys.
Cya
