This is for information - it happened to me and might happen to you!

I rode my CB to the testing station, no problem. Got off the bike and had a chat with the tester. When he tried to start the bike first it wouldn't, then it would, then it wouldn't. It didn't stop him doing the MoT (roadworthyness test) and diagnosing the problem at the same time.

The problem was a broken wire in the main loom where it goes round the steering head. The tester then split the loom sleeving, repaired the fault and taped up the loom sleeving FREE OF CHARGE and he passed the bike! What a hero!

I've had similar trouble in the past from the wiring loom on the tailgate of a car and they are a b....... to find because you have to test every wire for continuity.

I also learnt a great trick - taping the loom sleeving in a confined space was made a lot easier by the tester winding the length of tape to do the repair round a deep drive socket so he didn't have to try and get a big roll of tape into a restricted space.

The photo looks like the wire has been pinched. Mine was broken because it had been stretched. I think the loom has been put back in the wrong place at some time.

Then it's the same, that one had been stretched by me running it slightly wrong under the headstock panel. The fault was really hard to find as the copper had separated but the plastic looked nearly fine, just a tiny pin hole where it'd stretched a little too far.

Glad you got it fixed  Cheesy

Agreed, although being honest probably doen't deserve hero status. I hear all sorts of stories about riders being ripped off at garages, esp younger riders that usualy can afford it the least. OP, just like you should "name and shame" disreputable garages, I reckon you should also name this guy for being honest. Someone might google his name to see if there are any horror stories about him and find this.
