Cheers everyone!  I just took delivery of my 1989 CB-1 this weekend.  Bought it from a fellow in Ohio, had it delivered by a friend of mine in a U-Haul trailer.  Spent the weekend checking her out and did the registration/title dance this morning.  Went for a 100 mile ride just to get familiar with the little beast.  Quite a hoot to ride, to say the least.  Another unusual addition to my small collection of bikes, and probably the last for some time since I'm now totally out of space for storing and working on them!

The CB-1 shares space with a 1972 Honda CL 175 currently torn down for a total refurbishment, a 1977 HD Sportster XLT, 1978 Sportster Anniversary Edition, 1979 Honda CBX and a 1989 Honda GB500.  As you can tell, I like bikes that are somewhat unusual or rare, especially evident with the GB and now the CB-1.  Two bikes from the same year, nearly identical in size and weight but completely different otherwise!!  From my short ride today though, I can see that both the GB and CB-1 just love being thrown through the curves.  Luckily, I live near the mountains in Washington state and have a large variety of winding roads to play on.

I have a question for you guys that have been around the CB-1 for a while:  has anyone found a matching paint for those grey wheels?  I have a spare set of wheels that came with the bike but they need some TLC and I'd like to either touch up the paint or respray them completely.  I do all my own paint work but would like to retain the stock color.

Looking forward to spending a lot of time here.

Eric

Welcome to the site and nice looking ride! Depending on where you get your paint from you might be able to bring the wheel in and have them color match it for you...if someone here doesn't have a code for you. I have a black Jap spec so I can't help you out there.  Embarrassed

Nice bike, can we have pictures of your others?

IMHO trying to colour match the paint on your wheels is going to end up with a patchy job. I would leave it alone for the time being, and have the wheels re-finished in the closest-matching powder coat your man can find when your tyres need replacing. Cheap, durable and uniform in appearance.

Here's a pic of the 'family', minus the CL175 that is in pieces.

Concerning the wheels, I'm not a fan of powder coating and prefer to spray parts myself.  Nothing better than basecoat/clearcoat for a beautiful finish.

The 500 is a beautiful bike - all those old-brit looks and still a Honda underneath, how could you beat that?

Here's a better pic on my GB.  Just love that little bike, even though she was a bit rough when I got her.  After a complete repaint/redecal and lots of small details, she's a good looker now.  Runs super as well.  A fitting brother to the CB-1

I just picked up a clone to yours last month. That looks exactly like the one I bought, almost time vaulted.

Paint code:
If you take your bike to a good auto paint sales shop they should have digital paint camera and can shoot the rim and create a exact match formula.

After considerable time researching online, I found the paint code for the frame/wheels on the CB-1.  It's NH-167M-U, Iron Silver Metallic.  Available from Colorite.

Welcome. That's a seriously nice collection you've got there and your CB-1 looks in very good condition (mine looks every one of it's 90,000km). I'm quite jealous of your beautiful GB500 A guy from my local dealer has an old XBR500 in similar condition, I don't like him much! I'm going away now to call you names where you cant hear me! Grin (Again, welcome)

Congrats on your CB-1!  I have owned two in my life time which brings me to this question.

Did you happen to purchase that Bike from some one in Northern Ohio?

I owned my first CB-1 when I was in college and sold it, 95ish, when I found out I had a baby on the way to a gentlemen who lived in Northen Ohio.  I am from the Dayton Area.

His story to me was that he raced CB400's back in his younger days and he drove over 2 hrs to see the bike.  When I was dicussing the bike over the phone the only thing I could say to him is "This is not your old man's CB400!"

I purchased my second CB-1 from a gentlemen in California in 2004-2005 and at the time of purchasing my second bike I was trying to perhaps track down my original bike.  How cool would it have been if I could have?  I am so curious to see if this is my old bike by chance.

If I could dig up my old title and provide some VIN numbers would you be willing to check or even if you bought it from the same guy I sold it to perhaps he told the stories of his racing days.  I by no means wish to do anything but to see if by chance it is my CB-1.  I kicked myself in the arse for selling that machine.

As happy as I am with my second CB-1 it is a cali model so it has the CARB junk which I have thought about removing.

see attached pic of my second CB-1.  onlt 7k miles at time of purchase

The chances of this bieng my bike may slim but seeing as how rare these bikes are and the fact you purchased it in Ohio I am very interested to see if it could be my original CB-1 which I myself purchased from a gentlemn in Grove City Ohio.

maybe the title goes back far enough that it states me as previous owner.  Scott S.

thx in advance a congrats!!!!

Sounds like it could be your old bike, and I'd be happy to check VIN's.  Fellow I bought the bike from is Scott Rader in Perrysville, OH if that's of any help to you.  He's been selling a lot of CB-1 parts on Ebay since I bought his last CB and he doesn't need the stash of parts he accumulated over the years.

Eric;  I assume that you are the same Eric over on the GB500 site?  I'm ama, I think that we have e.mailed.  I, too, have a CB-1 in the "collection", as well as a Hawk GT, Transalp, NX 650, and VFR 750, all '89 or '90.  Love that Batson exhaust on the GB..........I have three GB's and one is set up as a cafe/bike with that system.

Yep, that's me on the GB site.  1989/90 were interesting years, bike wise, and I'm glad to own both rather rare models that didn't sell well.  The Batson exhaust is a work of art and having it allowed me to pass along my original Supertrapp system to a gal in San Francisco that desperately needed a new exhaust.  Lots of fun playing with these old bikes.
