fuel pipe
«

Hi,
The fuel pipe on my -1 has spilt. The one from the tank to the fuel filter and then the one from the filter to the fuel pump.
Does anyone know if you can buy new ones? I tried some of the re-inforced fuel pipe, but the curve from the filter to the fuel pump seems a bit tight and the pipe kinks a little.
Any other solutions?
Thanks.

Drewski is able to get a kit with all the related hoses and clamps. It also includes a new rubber mount for the included fuel filter as well I believe. It is expensive but I think worth it. Another solution is to use flexible copper tube to make the bends without kinks and short lengths of rubber hose to finish the connections. The OEM hoses are just not available.

Thanks for the info m8.Hopefully when Drewski see this then he can give more details.Hopefully expensive is not too expensive lol.
I just got to say though that whoever designed the pipework needs a good slap
.Its the most stupid design I've ever seen. There's just no room to place the filter in any other position.
thanks.

I think that's the rub of it - there just literally isn't any room, anywhere else. Tiny bikes, see?

Yeah, everything is just crammed in.Made for small japanese hands I think lol.
Is it possible to run it without the filter? I know theres one inside the tank on the fuel tap, but how good is that? There wasn't any crap in the filter when I looked, so as a short term option I was thinking of running the tank directly to the pump.I don't want to knacker that though if there's any risk.
Thanks.

I had a fireblade a while back. That relied entirely on the in-tank gauze filter. Which of course failed and split, dumping sediment through the carbs and causing it to run poorly. I'd cleaned the carbs three times before that occurred to me, and I fitted an auxiliary fuel filter like the -1 has as the in-tank filter was clearly not up to the job, not to mention seriously expensive to replace. The Blade was a 96-ish model and didn't have a fuel pump like the earliest ones, so by design maybe the filter was less essential, as no moving parts to mess up? Well, until you get to the carbs anyway.
As long as the gauze filter is in good condition it should be fine, but I wouldn't want to trust it, myself.

I'm not entirely confident on not having one, so I guess I'll have to try and bodge something together until I can find some proper pipes.Maybe try turning the filter around so I can do away with having the tight bend back to the pump?
Wouldn't be so bad if you had a little space to sit the filter vertical
If anyone has the pipes sitting about or come across any hopefully you can keep me in mind??
Forgot to ask, whats the best size fuel pipe to use? I think I've got 9.5mm braided stuff at the moment but was wondering whether 10mm would be better? Considering fuel flow I don't want it restricting it and possibly stuttering at higher speeds.
Thanks.

I can get the kits but last time I looked, they worked out fairly expensive - 4K yen to buy, (about £30 GBP), on top of that I have to pay the agent in japan $10, then post in Japan and to the UK. probably work out about £55 all in. Have you got a pic of the pipes you need? I have a few lying around.

ISTR the fuel hose is 8mm ID? In any case, the size will be defined by the fittings on the fuel tank and pump.
I also STR that it's the same size hose used on a fireblade, so I wouldn't worry about obstructing flow.

Thanks a_morti, hopefully it should be fine with the size I've got on there then.
@ Drewski,
£55 is a bit too rich for me at the moment.Though if its for everything included in the photo you linked to then it doesn't seem too bad a price.
The bits I'm after are the two attached to the fuel filter. The ones with the stupid curves on.If you've got some lying about m8 then I'd definitely be interested, depending on costs of course.Otherwise it will have to wait until probably next month. My missus has already started giving me the evil eye with all I've spent since getting the bike a few weeks ago lol.
At the moment I've managed to use the old pipe from the tank to the filter by cutting it down to fit in the gap. Then used a new piece of fuel pipe to go from the filter to the tank. Its a bit tight but doesn't look like its kinked or collapsing on itself, but I won't know for sure until I start it.
Thanks.

Well that's not a good start - first one I've found is torn like yours
However, if you use the outer sleeve, you should be able to use flexi pipe without it kinking.
I'll see what else I can find..............

Thanks m8.Thats roughly the same place mine ripped.
I've used the outer sheath on some of that reinforced fuel pipe but its a bit bulky under there.I've had the bike running and there doesn't appear to be any leaks ( touch wood ).
That piece in the photo is what I've cut down to go from the filter to the pump.Again its a bit tight but so far not leaking.
Thanks.

Hi,
I have just read this topic and was wondering if anyone had got anywhere with getting some of the fuel pipe? I have tried a number of things but it's never as good as the proper thing that is bent to suit. I would be quite willing to get it as a kit as the rubber fuel filter band has also split.

I had a similar problem and just got fuel pipe to specify to the same as the pipe off the cb-1 and just cut it to same length except for the pipe between the fuel filter to the pump where i got extra long pipe and looped it up under the tank so the loop didn't kink and gives more clearance

The diabolical $/yJP exchange rate is making parts from Japan very expensive at the moment. I can get the kits still but they would cost about £70 GBP.
EDIT: Just worked this out to between £55 and £58 GBP, that includes shipping in Japan and then to the UK and a $10 US agents fee in Jp.
