Hi all, my cb1 has been declared a category c write off by the insurers. Does anyone know the procedure to get it back on the road? does it need a further mot or vehicle check? will it be more to insure? failing that i may sell it for parts- clocks, headlight and tank are in a bad way but other parts should be ok, would anyone in sussex area be interested in the whole bike (as spares/repair)?, cheers , pete

Take off all exterior panels and tank, look at welded main sections of frame, cracked paint is a sure sign of a bent structure, so if that is,  options are having it re-jigged by an approved operator or sourcing a new frame, the procedure to getting the bike back on the road is, write to DVLA with frame and engine number and registration, tell them that your intention is to put it back
on the road,----they will write back asking for your intended day then they will ask you to take the bike to a vehicle inspection centre, what will happen is like an MOT x 10..A vehicle engineer will check everything and I mean everything with a fine tooth comb, bit like getting a TUV test and certificate, if it passes, then DVLA will update there records and issue the correct documentation...

If you ring the insurance company that declared it a write off they will be able to answer ALL of those questions

I would be tempted to sell for spares unless you have a lot invested in the bike. Tanks and clocks are very difficult to find.

Thankyou for the replies everyone! I've had a lot of mixed information on the write off issue with dvla and vosa giving different answers too ! I think i'll try my best to get the cb1 back on the road as i can't bear to part with it! Just had bad luck with a crash then being knocked over stationary by a timber lorry after I'd fixed the crash damage. Thankyou philharrow for the links too.
