No I meant the corner, speed handling, high speed handling, and my old 400-4 SOHC left a,"Terry Beckett" tuned Yamaha LC350 sick as a parrot when I wiped the road with him..............Now I do not have the tyres to hand that I had on the 400-4 but if both bikes were put head to head on really twisty bits then the 400-4 would win hands down. Smiley

Blimey, who was riding the LC? My old 250 Kawasaki used to leave 400/4s behind and that didn't handle at all. The "Farty Far From Fast Four Hundred Four" we used to call them. They had a lovely smooth running engine but, in standard form, they really were slow compared to the competition.

If you read about my400/4 sohc you will see a lot of effort was used 18 month blueprint engine rebuild with lots of  internal porting and polishing.. my own made and designed exhaust can. and the 400n running parts with sticky rubber and air remote rear shocks took care of the flingy bits, I could have sold it 100times and every 400/4owner who seen it and seen it go were amazed. if you ever get to go to the Antelope bike club or its rally any old member should remember my" Duckham's colored Wotan Honda" I'am currently sourcing parts to do another one however time is against me so if it gets done it gets done if not my NOK will inherit what iv'e got so far carbs have been done and modified I could post a pic of them.

I just managed to free off my last idle mixture screw so quite pleased. All 4 castellations had been chipped off so I used a junior hacksaw blade to cut a slot right down until it touched the carb body. Ground a tip on the end of a st/st kitchen knife and had a go - it moved fractionally but I knew it would snap the two ends off if I leaned on it so I tried a freezer spray first (no luck) then reluctantly a fine propane jet to heat the body and suddenly it was free-ing off. can't believe how much luck i'm having on this bike compared to normal tales of woe. Got the first 'O' ring samples in the post and they fit a treat (8mm inner dia x 1.25 mm wall for the three aluminium tubular link pipes)

Also painted the shift lever as it looked kak. starting to look like a bike again. also purchases some electrical thingies to sort out the wiring as most things were hacked off by the PO  Tongue

sounds nice Gunther - look forward to a picture. My bike will look like a hack to begin with while I decide how much money to spend improving it cosmetically as it's questionable whether I will get it back (and it won't go any better!)

Wasn't today but changed chain and sprocket and oil and filter yesterday and tightened head set. nice smooth ride home after changing everything but the old chain was so ratty that every rotation of the wheel it'd jump, not fun driving. and i hadn't noticed but after tightening the headset was driving home and slapped on my front brakes as i usually would and pulled a feckin stopie which i didn't mean to do. all the time driving with a huge smile on my face makes a difference to drive a good running bike.

hehe, check out the revival project in the picture section Smiley It will take a lot of work to get it to look good, but I'm just tackling the worst and unsafe parts right now.

Got it running!

When i picked it up it had a shot starter clutch and the p.o. had the fuel line plumbed into the air vents, the floats stuck in place with excess form-a-gasket, missing mixture screws, the oil drain plug as over tightened and leaks....yay.

Will adjust and sync the carbs when i can but then this build will sit on the back burner till i finish my hawk...

Are people running gravity feed with no fuel pump like the f2/f3?

Hey ! I'm running my -1 with no fuel pump, lacks of power, but i have to do many other things before the fuel pump, today i changed a spark plug, was running on 3 cylinders cause it burnt because of excess fuel, next week im gonna have to sync and clean the carbs, and why not adjust the valves right ?

Proof that a little knowledge is a dangerous thing :-(

It'll run with no fuel pump but since the tank is low and the carbs high it will only use about half the (tiny) tank before the fuel is forced into flowing uphill. Fluids aren't best known for voluntarily flowing uphill...

Carbs sound fixable but the sump may be a problem even if only because the gasket is NLA. what's you plan?

I have an extra oil pan so i will probably try and stencil a new gasket and make one...

Got it running and pulling much harder today.... not perfect but surprised me at high rpms ha...weeeeeee.

I will probably switch to a mikuni vaccum pump setup...was just curious about the gravity feed..

Vacuum fuel pumps are rubbish. They dry out and don't start well after a few days.

@ morti - yeah vac pumps arent the best, but im making a custom subframe with an rs125 tail (actually the whole body kit as well) so eliminating the fuel pump wiring/relay helps tidy things up.

You'll need to run a vacuum pipe to it though.

Seen these?

I have a confession to make, i'm a nutter for all things Italian normally but yesterday was a real revelation... took my CB-1 for a short run for the first time to check chain, brakes, headstock, suspension ready for MOT and what a well refined totally amazing piece of kit that engine is. Immediately after I jumped on my Ducati 400SS to give it a run and so it was a  back-to-back test. Engine wise, well what can I say  Embarrassed it might amuse you all when I tell you I stopped half a mile up the road because I seriously thought it was running on one cylinder.
