Before I remove my exhaust system for painting I'd like to know if it's absolutely necessary to replace the exhaust gaskets as recommended in the service manual. Does Honda carry a comparable gasket? If  not, what have  people been using to improvise?

I am new to the 1 (owned it less than 2 weeks) and I'm surprised to see the lack of parts for the bike. I love the bike and I can't believe that it isn't a big hit in the cafe racer circle.

My other bike is a 75 Norton and it has great manufacturer support. Tons of parts to be had. The bikes are so different in character but they both give me a big smile.

You may get away with it if you give the mating surfaces a VERY thorough clean. If it leaks, get gaskets. it's worth using domed nuts on the flanges if poss, but if you're using old gaskets, watch you don't run 'em through.

Exhaust gaskets are common to many of the Honda bikes. CBR600, VFR, VTR etc. Get the cb-1 # and any honda dealer will have them in stock. Also lots available on ebay.

some improvize with aluminium foil, asbestos, RTV, specially if you are customizing the bike, and are facing multiple removal and testing of the header... possibilities are endless, hehehehe. New is the best when you have it.
