If money was no object, what would be your top 5 things you would do to your -1? Please include specifics such as 'install 4 Mikuni model xyz carbs available at John's Carb shop for $300 US'. 'Install carbs' would be an example of a poor response.

The guidelines:
If you can think of only 2 things that's fine. Just don't exceed 5.
List most desirable to least.
The change must be possible. Example: boring the engine out to a 2000 cc could not be on your list. On the other side of the coin turbo charging the engine could be on the list if and only if you can include a manufacturer of the unit (even it is your neighbor who is selling it to the public).

Since I am a new owner of a -1 and know so little about the bike I have no list. I will be using your lists as a source of ideas and parts/services. Thanks in advance.

  • NC23 Camshafts
  • NC29 Pistons
  • NC23 Swingarm
  • White Power Rear Shock
From experience:
Improve brakes (spiegler bracket plus brembo brake from cagiva 125 or full new front end with dual discs)
Improve front fork (cbr900 96-7 is easiest, I also used Apex riser bars)
Improve rear shock. Hagon is good but needs harder spring if with better forks.
Replace wheels, nc29 front and rear (or similar depending on your spec) to allow 120/160 tyres, as you can get modern radials in these sizes.
Nc23 camshaft. For full effect use with open exhaust and freer filter, jetting up to 116DJ and go from there. I never finished tweaking but was around 52hp which is +15% for very little money. If you only ride single use cbr900 rear pegs to allow a more sporty look an better ground clearance of exhaust can.

After this there isn't much left to do. Improve the electrics is worthwhile, eg better regulator and maybe a relay powered headlight subloom.

I have twice fitted nc29 arms and honestly it is only of cosmetic benefit.

Can't agree there. If you want to go a little faster very cheaply then do my mods. If you want to go significantly faster then get a 600. If you want to go faster but have to have a 400 then get a CBR etc.

Not sure there ever was a Harris frame and if there was it be for the CBR engine.

Has anyone ever done carbon wheels? It'd be cool but you can already save a good 0.5kg off the front using CBR wheels and radial tyres and that's even with twin discs. There is a whopping @3kg to be saved off the rear if swapped to 6-spoke and if you also fit an alloy sprocket that's another @800g more again.

Hmmmmmmm..................

My list is quite large, but I can pick 5...

1. Blackstone Tech Carbon fiber wheels...  http://www.blackstonetek.com/
2. TTS Performance (England) Big Bore Kit.  They use to have an 485cc kit. They only have a 444cc kit now.  I emailed them last week!  They said when I am ready, just let them know. I have spoke with the guy here in the States that has the 485cc kit in his CB-1 and he says his 1 is VERY fast now!
3. Carbon fiber gas tank.  The guy above that has the big bore kit, has his own shop and use to make carbon fiber tanks for the 1.
4. RVF400 Carbon Fiber full bodywork from tyga-Performance  www.tyga-performance.com  Click on Tyga Project bikes, then click on RVF Carbon Fiber 1 and 2.  One of the sweetest looking bikes I have EVER seen!
5. Fully adjustable Penske rear shock.

That was tough because my dream CB-1 race bike will have so much more!

The original post was "What is your top 5 things..", (money no object), not "what are the 5 things you'd do on the cheap to keep Morti happy" Cheesy

If you pay them enough, Harris will make a frame for whatever you like and CF wheels have been around for a while now.

I see what you mean Drew but it was meant to be realistic I think?

I think I'm just a little too deepy routed in real-life money for this thread.

I am putting serious thought into putting some proper money into my next bike though. Might be a fireblade I reckon, I loved my old one.

I have to chime in even though mine's no longer a 400, which is why I have to chime in  Grin

1. Modern forks. (2007 CBR600RR forks will bolt on)
2. Modern brakes to go with the forks. ( See above )
3. Adjustable shock (1993 CBR900RR, 4mm longer than CB-1, raises rear ride height about 14mm )
3. Wider wheels ( CBR600F3 )
4. New rubber to go with the wider wheels. ( See above )
5. More power ( CBR600F3 in my case, but I think the original 600 hurricane might almost be a bolt on)

Ok, I'm done. For now anyway.

1 take apart bike, cut off all unnessecary parts, powdercoat
2 fit new electrics, tidy up existing electric components
3 sandblast and repaint exhaust
4 make engine running  Roll Eyes and clean carbs
5 new seals and oil in the forks

after that I'll probably find a lot more (expensive) mods to do.  Cheesy
