I've decided to sell the CB1.5
It's done and I'm itching for a new project.
I thought I'd post this here before anywhere else since you guys know what's in this bike.
I think that $4000.00 is a fair price considering the time and money invested.
Look for my "What I did on my Christmas Vacation" thread for more info.

Here is what it looked like when I first got it roadworthy:

Here is what it looks like today:

To recap:
1989 CB1
1996 CBR600F3 motor, carbs, airbox and wheels.
HRC ECM with full stainless race pipe with Ducati 1098 muffler.
2007 forks and gauges.
1993 CBR900RR shock with ST1300 spring, I will include the stock shock as well as the stock CBR900RR spring.
The fuel tank and tailsection were purchased new 2 years ago, the seat has been recovered in Carbon Fiber look alike material.
The frame, swingarm and wheels were painted at the same time.
The engine is built to Supersport Specs and makes 94 hp at the rear wheel.

The only fly in the ointment is that the bike has a salvage title, which is how I got it.
I don't know the history but the frame was computracked by Miguel DuHamels crew chief who started this build and I finished it.
The bike is currently registered in California and I've put about 10,000 miles on it since I finished it.

That's it in a nut shell.
Any questions, let me know.

So what kind of mpg do you get?  Wink

Just kidding.

You mentioned in your other thread that: "Front brake rotors are on loan from a raceteam crewchief as long as I own the bike... ", does that still apply here?

From reading it sounds like the engine was rebuilt at the time of your build and thus has 10k miles on it?

The bike gets 40-45mpg commuting. Seriously, not kidding. Riding the Canyons I've never checked....
I received the engine already built when I got the bike.
I'll have to check on the front brake rotors, I forgot about that  Shocked

How did you get hooked up with DuHamel's crew chief, and how did you acquire the bike from him?  Did you use to wrench in the AMA?

I knew him when he worked at Honda through a mutual friend.
He had seen my Rotax powered 250 Ninja and thought I'd do a good job with the CB-1

I've been a mechanic for about 40 years, but never for a race team.

So, he wanted a 600 engine in his CB-1, then after the engine was in, he lost interest in the bike?

Huh By no means, am I trying to be harsh. In your first post, you stated that DuHamel's crew chief started the build and then you finished it.  That statement made me curious, as to what point in the build, did he make the decision that he no longer wanted it.  With him being involved in racing, I would have thought he spent alot of time riding the crap out of it!  To more than double the power of the stock motor, thats got to be insane to ride!  And I mean that in a good way!

I thought I had detuned my comment with the smiley, sorry if I came across harsh.
When I got the bike the engine was in the frame hanging from the bottom rear and a newly fabricated front engine hanger.
The sprocket hub was machined to align the front and rear sprockets.
The tank was a rusted, dented pos, there was no seat, no radiator, headlight or front fender or exhaust.
The tank wouldn't fit the bike because of the F3 airbox and I had to braze about a dozen holes shut.

That's probably why he passed it on to me, he was building a 924 with a built small block Chevy at the time and I asked the right question at the right time. He even warned me and said are sure you want this ?
You have no idea what it took to make the rest of the motor mounts, get the tank to fit and the gauges to work, find a seat from Japan that turned out be a base and foam with a cover that was toast.

Anyway, a year and a half later it was on the road and the following Christmas I got a brand new tank and tailsection and the 600RR front end. I started to bolt it up and realized how bad the rest looked so I stripped the bike down to the bare frame and had at it. What you see is the end result.
It does pain me to let it go but I need to build another bike and the CB-1.5 needs to go to a good home.
The new project is a '77 R100/7 that I want to have some fun with. It's my fourth Beemer and they are a hoot to work on.

Anyway, there you have it.
Again, sorry if I took your comment the wrong way.

Its all good!    Smiley  You know what they old saying is...Timing is everything!  Being a performance type of guy, Im surprised that he passed, on what is probably the ultimate sleeper!  Your stick-to-itness, has created a beautiful CB-1, that looks like that engine has been in there all the time!  When you first posted pics of it, it reminded me of the days when then Honda CB750 and CB900 were popular bikes.  Naked, muscular, and proud to be sticking their chest out!  lol

Your paint job on the frame is really messin with me!  Man, it looks good!  I would really like to do that with mine, but probably not until my racing days are over.  I want to keep my 1 looking as close to stock as possible for now.  I have 58hp in mine and I cant imagine having 36hp more!   Shocked GEEZ!!!  Your 1 would definitely qualify as an E-ticket ride!

One of the best seriously modded CB-1s I have ever seen, along with Stussels' 1.  Good Luck with the sale, and I too hope it goes to a good home!  Smiley

Oh how I wish this bike could have been mine, if we only could have worked out a deal back in November.

I'm well over $8k and counting into the Husky and love it to death, but this would have been just as nice.   Wink

Best of luck with the sale so you can move on to new projects!
