Just recieved some new guages from China.  They were advertised for a CB250F but they looked exactly the same as the CB-1 guages. They came and looked real good. I plugged them in and the Tach and speedo worked but nothing else. I took the back off and they had the wiring colors right but the leads going into the plugs were all wrong.  I then just took the loom from the old guages and installed in the new. Bingo, all is well!  The chinese loom wires were a lot smaller guage than the originals but it was the same other than that. All in all it's a pretty good deal for 100 bucks.

At least I can admit that I knew what I was getting into when I made the purchase.  Kinda scary though that the market is filling up with these disposable products.

I'm sure other people have tried out the Neverland CB1 gauge: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Speedometer-Speedo-Gauges-Honda-CB-1-CB400F-89-92-/250955035415?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&vxp=mtr&hash=item3a6e15f317#ht_5571wt_1163

But if anyone is considering it, don't. It's terrible. I tried it out for a few weeks and to start the temp gauge was reading as maximum after 10 minutes of riding which scared the crap out of me to the point that I took the bike in to get looked at. Eventually (1 week or so) it just stopped working.

Next up is the RPM needle, or as I like to call it "Dr. Wobbly". Any crack of the throttle or changing of gear put it into a stupor and it bounced up and down until finally settling on a vague, likely incorrect, target.

And last, but not least is the Speedometer needle. It's accuracy could be compared to a drunk 95 year old man trying to hit the toilet from 10 feet back. My first hunch that something was wrong was when I was on a highway with a speed limit of 90km/h and I was keeping up with traffic, but magically enough I was apparently only going 45 km/h. I mentioned this to a buddy on his GSXR. Afterwards he would give me hand signals for when he hit 50 so I could compare my speed. At 50 it said I was going 30, another time it said I was going 20, and yet another it said I was going 50.

Sorry for this long post, I'll wrap it up soon.

So I tried to take the components from the stock CB1 gauge (broken housing) and put them in the Chinese one. Yea, they don't fit. I took the opportunity to compare the components side by side and the problem was pretty apparent. Cheaply, cheaply built. The 22 year old Japanese parts are rugged and built to last. The Chinese ones were flimsy, the plastic pieces had globs off excess material hanging off them from the mold and they weighed next to nothing. Complete waste of money.
