So coming home tonight (loving the bike, btw) I realized at dusk that I have no gauge lights. All the warning lights work as they should, but nothing on the tach or speedo.

First, there are gauge lights, right?

Second, if they're both out, are they close on the circuit and thus maybe a bad wire?

Third, if it's bulbs, how hard is it to replace them?

There are bulbs inside, and you have to pull the back covers off of the gauges to get at them. I believe there are two bulbs per gauge and they are a bit of a pain to get at. At least mine were.

speedo has one bulb  tacho/temp has 2, remove back as stated --then bulb holders just pull out on rubber ridged sleeves.

2 ways of doing it, 1, remove headlamp and you should be able to do it without disconnecting speedo drive.

2, remove the speedo drive from clock gearbox remove the two instrument retaining bolts and then you will have access tothe bulb holders.

both the feed  to all dial bulbs share a common ground so if all out but bulbs are ok check the ground connection ie bad earth.

The gauge lights themselves are out, but the kickstand light inside the speedo still works. Would you think bulbs or ground?

kickstand! or sidestand! is on a separate bulb  if all 3 instrument illumination bulbs have gone try a new one in only 1 of the 3 holders  if it lights try it in the other 2, if it doesn't light at all or blows then you have a wiring prob try the ground/negative/or earth (green wires) make a  bridge link by using a bit of cable to a good ground and then put it into the multiplug earth.

Sounds like either a poor/corroded contact or a wire has been chafing somewhere. Beforev you take the clocks off, remove the headlamp lens and fiddle with the connectors to see if the lights come back on.

I actually hear some plastic sounding rub when I turn the wheel while it's parked. Is it a little of that normal or could the harness be routed incorrectly?

Also, I just pulled the lens out of the bucket. Honestly, it couldn't be cleaner. I'll tackle the clock thing soon and report my findings.
