So I noticed my #3 pipe was missing its exhaust bolts, so I'm trying to get ahold of those. As well, I noticed it's cold at idle, so I'm going to take a day to get at the pilot jet in there, and possibly a whole sync and whatnot. It has a hard time idling without choke until warm.

Anyway, I got the seat, tank, airbox off and stuff today, and I didn't proceed at the carbs because I didn't see drain lines anywhere and didn't want a mess, so first questions:

Are the nipples at the bottom of the bowls the drains, and where are the drain screws? If I need a line there, what size do I need?

Second, am I correct in thinking the pilot jet is causing the idling issues?

Third, what parts (if any) should I look to get as incidental replacements while I'm at it?

I was told the carbs were recently rebuilt and synced by a shop within the past 4 or 5 months, but the bike has been doing some sitting.


Also, idle without choke is right at or below 1k. Should I wait until I've cleaned jets to worry about idle adjustment?

I would wait untill you have the exhaust fitted correctly before taking the carbs off. The poor running was probably caused by the loose pipe, use some redex in the tank to clean up the carbs and go for a ride. That should probably sort out the rough running, if not you can always try the carbs.

Before removing the carbs, take the tank off and check out the fuel tap filter, and also the inline filter for crud. Be careful not to damage the tap, they're bloomin expensive to replace  Wink
            The pilot jets are prone to getting gummed up though. No need to empty the carbs before removal, just don't smoke while you're doing it and keep them the right way up until you get them over a bowl. Any spilt fuel will soon evaporate.The carbs can put up a bit of a fight if they havn't been off for a bit, a lever from the side between the carbs and the frame is the way to go if so, just be careful with the lever on the carb.
