This list is rather quiet so I thought it would be a good time to share with you all my CB1 rebuild (rebirth) program.

Not to get into all the details of how it all came about. I will leave that for when I build my web site on this rebuild. Here is what is taking place. Currently the bike is in stripped form. It is down to the frame. This is what will happen to the bike.

FORKS:
CBR929RR. These are a direct swap in to the CB1 steering column. The bearings sets are exactly the same. But, the top of the fork tubes stop at the top of the triple tree. I have also purchased a set of stock CBR929RR clipons. These clipons do not just come straight out, they raise up a bit. Currently these forks are at Lindemann Engineering getting the works done to them. Re-valve, respring, reseal.

SWINGARM:
My first choice here is an NC29 (CBR400RR) gullarm. I have a complete arm except for the shock on its way to me from England. I will not use the shock linkage setup either. I'll rebuild this part so it is a hard mount shock like the CB1 swingarm is. That way i do not have to figure out all the spring rates in order to get the correct shock.

SWINGARM OPTION:
I also have on its way to me an MC28 (NSR250R) single sided swingarm. From what I have been told by a fellow CB1er in Germany who has done this mod with an NC30/35 swingarm, the pivot width of the arm is the same as the CB1 so it will swap right in with no modifications. I also believe it leaves the wheel base the same.

Here is a photo of the MC28 swingarm

WHEELS:
HRC Magtek. These are magnesium wheels. I have a set for whatever swingarm configuration I choose.

MOTOR & CARBS:
Motor is the standard CB1 as delivered. I have purchased a new set of Keihin CR special carbs. These are not CV carbs, they are cable activated like a flat slide. Instead of a flat slide though, they are a round slide. For the motor intake, I will do a street port job and a multi-angle valve job. The carbs will run open with just velocity stacks. Living in IL, I do not have a lot a debris in the air like when I was living in AZ. Motor will be powder coated silver.

For the groups information, Keihin DOES make a 32mm flat slide carb for the CB1. I did not know this until after I purchased my CR specials. When I build my Race CB1, I will use the flat slides.

REAR SHOCK:
OHLINS. I'll have it setup for the bike and my weight.

EXHAUST:
NC29 (CBR400RR) full system. Yes, you can use the NC29 exhaust because the motor setup and size is basically the same. Externally the motors are the same except for the upper mounting point. Here is a photo for the exhaust system I will be using.

Currently it is being manufactured. I'll have new exhaust hanger brackets made and lugs welded to the frame.

FRAME:
Stock CB1 frame with new silver powder coating.

REAR SETS:
BEET of Japan. These sets are made specifically for the CB1.

BODY:
Stock tank, seat and rear body work. I did purchase a fender eliminator kit. It tucks the rear brake light in further and cleans up all that stuff hanging out the back end. Comes with a license plate bracket and holes to mount low profile winkers. I am still trying to decide on what color to paint the tank, front fender and tail section. I have narrowed it down to three colors. Orange, red or yellow. I also picked up new (used) side panels except the ones I bought have the something along the lines 400 FOUR GEAR DRIVEN CAMS etched into them. I'll have those polished up.

BRAKES & HAND CONTOLS:
Front will be a set of BREMBO's with steel braided lines. The rear will be the stock NISSIN with steel braided lines. Master cylinder for the rear will be polished and I will have a new reservoir that mounts directly to the master cylinder so I do not have to route a hose to a remote reservoir. Hand controls will be stock Honda. Gauge panel will be painted same color as bike. I will use the stock headlight with silver chromed housing. I have yet to choose the brake rotors for the front and rear.

I think that covers just about everything. My goal is to have it back on the road next spring.

Those are not the carbs I got. I got CR special which work the same as the FCR's except they are round slides. Still cable actuated and not vacuum and my CR's outlet match the CB1 intake diameter which is very important for non-vacuum actuated carbs. I'll post a photo of the carbs I got. I have to have some special adaptors made for them though. The adaptors that came with the carbs are to small for the boot to clamp to.

I am spending more than I should, but this is my all time favorite bike and will be my keeper. Do not plan on ever selling it so I want it to be exactly as I envision.

is it the nc30/35 swing arms that will go in? and do the cbr forks realy go in that easy? would you run them with the cbr or the original cb1 wheel?

Sorry I have been a bit quiet about my CB-1 rebuild project.

Update: As of right now the project is stalled. The typical lack of funds. Pictures will come as soon as I start working onit again. Here is where it stands.

Currently the bike is stripped of everything except the paint. That will come next. I have decided on a red paint scheme. The frame wil be repainted teh same silver gray color as wwil the engine. Swing arm will get polished. Not sure what to do with the triple trees yet. I am thinking black for the upper and silver for the lower. The console will be painted red.

I was sent the wrong style exhaust system. I wanted the setup where the pipes come up either side of the bike. Instead the manufacturer sent me the setup where both pipes are stacked on the right side. I really wanted the other one, but I think I can live with this setup. They are really nice pipes. I need to fit them up and locate where I will have the pipe hanger bracket lugs welded on. After that I can get the frame stripped of all paint and have it powder coated.

I got my CBR929RR forks back from Lindeman Engineering and they are sweet. He took the bike specs and all my weight information and rebuilt them to suite me and my bike. I need to have console mounitng lugs welded to the CBR929 triple clamps so I can attach my speedo and gauges properly.

I had a new custom made right side case cover made. It is aluminum and has CB-1 engraved across the middle. In smaller letters following the upper curvature I have the word HONDA and the lower curvature is CB400F. I will paint red enamel into the letters. I had two extra of these made.

The rear end will get an NC29 (CBR400RR swingarm). I still need to get a new rear shock as well. I'll probably go for an Ohlins, btu I will definitey need to work with a shock expert to get the perfect setup and ride height. I do want to raise the rear just a tad for a little more wheel clearance.

I also scored a set of Honda Mag Tek magnesium wheels. I got two sets, but made a mistake on the second set and got an 18" rear wheel. I'll put that set up for sale cheap. I only need the one set. I'll have these stripped and a new fresh magnesium gold color put on them.

I have a bunch of other smaller items to work on as well. I have rear sets, but not pegs. I found the pegs I want so I will need to machine an adaptor to mount them in the rear sets. No big deal there. Very simple setup. I will have the seat reupholstered. Front will be black, I want the strap to be checkered black and red and the rear to be red. Sort of make it look like a solo seat. I also got a fender eliminator kit for it.

Now here are the options I have to shoose from. I also picked up a complete MC28 single sided swing arm and a set of Mag Tek Magnesium wheels for it as well. I think I am more partial to the NC29 swing arm. The MC28 swingarm is sweet though and is a direct drop in. If I go with the MC28 arm, then I will get a different exhaust system. One theat will exit on the left. I'll probably have to have a new in between pipe made to do this though. But, on a single sided swing arm it is a must to hav ethe exhaust on the left.

I also have a CBR250RR swing arm. Basically the same as a CBR400RR swingarm. I picked it up for no reason at all  Undecided. I also got some replacement parts such as a complete radiator with ALL the parts, some new case covers and a set of coils and spark plugs. After stripping my bike I found the reason my bike was running so crappy. One of the spark plug wires was broken inside the boot. Unfortunately Honda does not sell tthese as replacement parts anymore so I found a set in Japan.

To finish this project I still need to get brake rotors and calipers and SS lines, a rear shock, some frame work and paint. Needless to say, when I am done I will have a load of parts to sell off.

I also have a complete VFR750 swing arm and wheel and a complete NT650 swingarm and wheel to sell. Anyone wants them, I will sell them cheap.

I went through yahoo japan. I was put in touch with a person that lives in Japan who will bid and purchase parts. He is listed on the Yamaha RGV list. He only takes PM's from that list for orders. There is also another place named Japan Auctions that will get stuff as well.

The exhaust manufacturer is RPM. The exhaust is not made specifically for the CB-1. It is for a CBR400RR. But the CBR400RR uses basically the same engine. The exhaust ports are the same, the engine sits in the frame at approximately the same angles and the distance from the exhaust ports to teh bottom of the motor is the same and the oil pan is the same. So all the clearances around the motor are the same. Where you might run into problems is where the exhaust exits out under the swing arm. Mine will work fine since I am using a CBR400RR (NC29) swingarm.

Other exhaust options are DAISHIN Racing. They make an exhaust for the CB-1. I think it is an aluminum one. I have seen them on Yahoo Japan an dalmost got one, but was not able to get my bid in on time. Then I found the RPM exhausts. The RPM exhaust is NOT cheap. I paid nearly $800.00 for it. The used DAISHIN ones will run you about $100 to $150 if I remember correctly.

You do nto have to read Japanese to be able to view and understand all this stuff and what you are buying. Use a little common sense and you can matchup the areas that tell you if it is buy it now, when it was posted, when it goes off and of course the cost. The hard part is actually getting to the correct link because of course you cannot read japanese. Here is a direc tlink to the search page.

http://list1.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/26318-category.html

Now ther ewill be a yellow band tha truns across the top of the page. Directly under that there is a box you can enter your search text in. Then click on the green Japanese characters to the right. For the CB-1, just type in CB-1. For others, just type in the motorcycle model such as NC30 or CBR400RR or MC21 or MC28 and so on.
