has anyone tried to make a tailpiece and/or a fender out of carbon fiber? I am going to try to rubber mold the front fender and rear section(in three pieces). the process looks easy enough. you make a box, put the piece in, pour the liquid rubber in, let it set, peel the piece out, and then use that as a mold to layup the carbon fiber mat. just wondered two things, A) if anyone has tried it, and B) if i made the mold, would anyone be interested in buying the tail piece in 'decorative carbon'(there are many types of weaves of carbon that are ugly.) I could also do one in kevlar, but the material is a lot more expensive. the prototype will be fiberglas as i have a tonne of it from rebuilding my old boat.

opinons/info welcome

Great idea!  Grin  I think the obvious would be to post up some pics of the first one you do, so guys can see how they look.

my question was more to see if there is an interest. It costs a lot to do a prototype. So assume it will look like a carbon tail piece, because thats what it is. If no one would want one, there is no point. The fender i am likely doing anyway, so i will offer them to the guys here locally, and you can get feedback from them. This is a planned winter project so no hurry.

If you would want one, (fender or tail) just post a yes. It doesnt mean you need to send a deposit. I am only weighing interest.

It would be awesome to have CF body work for the CB1.
I was thinking about getting a bunch of 3M carbon fiber sheets and wrapping them.
Yours will probably look better.  Wink

If you really like carbon fiber  Grin  Check out tyga-performance.com   Go to 'tyga project bikes', then click on RVF400 Carbon Part 2.  Be prepared to drool!  You have been warned... Shocked

That whole bike gives me the goose bumps!  Carbon fiber from front to back!  Those wheels are so, so, sick!  Those are the wheels on my project CB-1...whenever I decide to start it!   Grin

do you think that their gas caps or front fenders would fit the cb-1? if so, i will just get those from them. I wouldnt mind making the chain guard as well

Shoot them an email to find out.  My thoughts are that the gas caps may be the same, and I say that from a common sense standpoint.  In terms of production costs, it doesnt make sense to create a bunch of bike specific gas caps, even though some are different.  The front fender will probably need some research to see if it was the same on any other Honda models, then see if Tyga makes them...

i think a stock -1 with carbon gas cap, chain guard, front fender, tail section and side panels would be VERY f'ing cool. The thing is if you keep all of the stock parts who cares, it goes back to OEM in a couple of hours.

ed-  I can not type....

Very true.  The stock parts are really invaluable.
