50 over laws??? Dosent even sound good!  Whats that mean?

Ontario put in place new laws as of last Sept. that allow seizure of vehicles for seven days and very heavy fines for racing, stunting which includes weaving thru traffic, burnouts, doughnuts, drifting, unsafe passing, wheelies or stoppies and anything more than 50km/h (30mph) over the limit. Oh and driving from anywhere other than the drivers seat or carrying someone in the trunk. (figure those ones out??)

Several people on a Toronto motorcycle forum have had their bikes impounded. You lose the bike for seven days during which you must pay for towing, storage @ $300 /day etc. So at the end of the week you end up paying $2600 to get your vehicle back. Then there are the fines for the actual offence which are minimum $2000 and if you decide to argue with the officer there is a minimum $5000 added on to that. All the above mentioned are for first offence. Don't even want to know about subsequent ones.

At this point it is unclear what will happen to your insurance premiums but I am sure that the insurance companies will milk this one to the fullest and triple your rates or somesuch thing.

UNBELIEVABLE!!! Thats is just crazy!  And thats for a first offense!  OH MY!!!  The sad part, is that there are many irresponsible riders out there that have caused this to happen.  There is a time and place for everything.  Stunting and such riding, on public streets can be dangerous for both the rider and others.  But those laws are waaay overboard!  I guess I wont be crossing the bridge into Windsor on a bike anytime soon...

I can remember when it was said that skateboarders were a nuisance, then skateboard parks started opening up.  Sounds like the same needs to be done for stunters.  If I only had the money...  Thanks for the info.

I don't think that the impetus for the law really came from bikes. Street racing riced up civics and momma's Mercedes or Audi kills innocent bystanders and that was really the beef. If a sportbike crashes it generallyonly takes out the rider. Not that I am condoning riding crazy on the street as we have at least 4 tracks here in southern Ontario and reasonably affordable track days almost every weekend from mid April till the end of Oct. Way more fun than on the street anyway as there is no fear of the law or oncoming traffic.

A good friend with a 1200 Bandit recently was let off by an understanding Ontario Provincial Police for doing a little wheelie in a remote industrial area. The officer asked him VERY pointedly if his hand had slipped off the clutch and said that he had better hold on much better as he explained the possible penalty.

Nice to know there are some understanding officers of the law out there.  Im sure your friend was sweating bullets when he was pulled over!  Probably doing the math in his head of the hit his wallet was about to take! 

I agree with your statement regarding track riding!  What an amazing feeling!  For a few years, I was an assistant instructor with a beginners group at a track day school at my home track.  The group was street riders with no track experience.  Speeds were kept very low every.  After each session, we would meet and discuss the session.  What a wonderful feeling when the riders in my group took off their helmets, showing such great smiles!  To watch them progress throughout the day and develop a new respect for motorcycles was a great feeling!  I think it should be mandatory for new riders to do a track day as part of their licensing process.  That may sound crazy, but the track can teach you things the street can not, and make you a better street rider...

Living in Brantford right now, just got a '89 CB-1.  It's my first bike so I'm pretty excited.  It's stock execpt for a buell blast windscreen (painted to match).  I loved the look of the -1 from the first pic I saw so I knew I had to have it, it also helps on insurance being 'only' 400cc.  Let me know about any rides, though I won't have my m2 for another month and a half.

Hi Happy and welcome!  You made a great choice. You'll have to post some pics if you can. Did you buy it locally in B.C.? I got mine in May 06 from Gibsons just outside Vancouver. Here is a pic of the speedo when I bought it. Dusty from sitting so much. It is now at about 18,000km so has been ridden a little more. There still seems to be a few low mileage mint cb-1's around although they are certainly getting harder to find. I envy you for the roads you have available to ride.    I am sure if I was in Kamloops the mileage would be much higher.

If you need to get any help in the way of manual info or have any questions the folks here are very helpful and quick to respond.

I just signed up,
 I am from Vancouver Island I don't have a CB-1 yet just starting to look (any project bikes around AKA cheap),  I always liked the Hawk GT and this bike has a bunch in common with it.  The inline 4 gear driven cams liquid cooling under 400cc and naked, are all things going for it.  I currently drive a 97 DR350SE and had a CBX550 in the past, but am looking forward to the sound as I crack a CB-1 through the gears one day, but for now I think I watched all the CB-1 videos on You tube, and will live through all your experiences.

I'm in Toronto and have had my "1" for about 6 years...it's really an awesome bike.
It's cosmetics are a little battle weary but I do have a nos tank & tail just waiting to install

Hi I live in windsor Ontario had mine for 2 years as well got mine off Kajiji in St.Thomas there are two more in Windsor but have never seen them just been stopped by the owners on the street.
