Author Topic: Tyre recommendations in the UK  (Read 971 times)

Okay guys, had my CB1 for some three months now. It came with some pretty knackered Continentals on it which don't exactly inspire confidence. I'd like to know what other tyre UK riders have used and would recommend. I need something reasonably affordable. I don't do track riding, but most of my route is A roads, so I need a good compromise between decent grip and durability. Any suggestions?

Pirelli Diablos

I agree 100%. 6,000 miles 10,000km on mine and they still have lots left. Rear is squared off but still ok and front looks great. Grip is very good. They work really well on the CB-1. You have to use a 150-60/17 rear as they are not available in the 140-70.

i would recomend dunlop sportmax qualifiers if you can get them in the right sizes i will be looking for mine, a friend has them on his cbr6 and the grip is amazing, also on the last post, is it ok to fit different sized tyres like that i always thought you had to get the right size??

The diameter is the same because the 60 series tire is a lower profile than the 70 series. The rim width is within the acceptable limits for the 150-60 tire. The new tire is 10mm wider so that is 5mm more on each sidewall. For sure that doesn't give any clearance problems. It works great. I definitely wouldn't go as wide as a 160 but the 150 is fine. I have not tried a wider front so I wouldn't comment on that.

I havn't tried Diablos on the CB-1 but didn't get on with them on another bike, esp in the wet. BT45 Bridgestones for me.

All very interesting. Can't say I would have considered Bridgestones before! Reading some reviews had suggested Michelens (can't remember which ones), but no ones mentioned those yet. Any takers?

The BT45 is an excellent tyre IMHO, great grip, good in the wet and long lasting. I've been using them on mid-size bikes for years.
