Ride to Work...

This is kind of late, but did anybody Ride to Work Thursday? If you don't know about it, check this out
http://www.ridetowork.org/
. There are some interesting discussions. I work at home, so most of my riding is for fun, but back in the day when I had a desk job, I commuted through Boston. Okay, so it was only in nice weather.
And since I'm having trouble figuring out posting photos in the Profile page, here's a photo of my bike. Hey! It looks almost like yours. Mine's an '89, bought (at least second-hand) in '92. Box stock except I've tricked it out with mirrors from my old '86 Suzuki 650, and a custom, larger kickstand foot that keeps if from falling over in the grass in my yard.
This photo is coming home on the ferry (in the rain) after I had the rectifier replaced. That problem (it died halfway to Mt. Washington) is what lead me to this website.

Hey Moto (if I may call you that), that is cool. I lived in SF, off Ocean near Alemaney. I worked at home there...I'd jump on my GPz and split lanes at rush hour to get a job to Fedx on Harrison.
And I started reading your blog...interesting stuff...but not far enough. Farther on...Cleveland? Hey Ova Dey! Akron? You're kidding. CFO? Get out! CFHS '66! Go Tigers!
Okay, I'm probably way older than you, but that is too much!

I'm often bemused while filtering through rush hour traffic at the amount of folks that prefer to spend 2-3 hours each day sitting in their car rather than use a bike and getting an extra hour in bed every morning
Sod the weather, it's easy enough to keep dry nowadays. When I was about 18, every morning, I would try and keep up with this a guy on his Z1 through the traffic, man he could throw that bike around - he was only about 4 foot 6 too
I remember slipping over in the snow once and couldn't for the life of me get the bike upright again. The buggers in the cars behind did nothing to help and just shouted out of their cars - "Hurry up, I'll be late for work"
In the end a local bike shop owner who was passing pulled over in his private Hackney cab, (Reg BSA 1), and gave me a hand.
A little trick I learnt to break the monotony in heavy traffic was to let a car drive over the tip of my steel toe-cap boot and scream blue murder

But Drewski, if you ride a bike, how will you read your paper, shave, or (!) put on your make-up? A woman here was pulled over because she was watching tv while she was driving. She said she was doing it "to keep herself awake."
That's interesting about where your help came from when you dropped your bike. I hit a patch of spilled gas and went down in a traffic circle in Boston at rush hour. I remember watching the sparks from my bike ('82 GPz 550) as it slid along. I wasn't hurt (25 mph), but I was worried about getting run over (Boston drivers). Who stops? A guy on a bike. "You okay? Get up so we don't get hit." He pretty much got my bike out of the road while my head cleared and I stopped shaking. He asked "Can you ride?", I said yes, and off he went. I hope I can do as much for somebody else some time.
I appreciate your toe trick, but that's a bit close for me.

I ride to work. Love my commute, look forward to it. Ride about 15,000 km a year. Usually riding cuts my commute time in half. I save a lot on gas too.

Unfortunately, lane splitting where I live is illegal, so I must stay inside the lanes... but it still makes the ride to work much more enjoyable with a twist of the throttle instead of a foot on a pedal.
