Project HONDA: The CB1 Chronicles

Hi Guys,
I'll grab this spot to introduce myself and misuse it for some intersting CB1 repair pictures...
My name is Petrus Prins I'm 29 years of age and I am currently living and studying in Stellenbosch, a small town near Cape Town, South Africa. I'm in my final year of study in the field of electronic engineering and computer science. My hobby used to be electronics, but as soon as I started studying it, I had to do something else as a hobby...
This Honda CB1 project was born in September 2006 when a friend of mine talked me into starting a bike repair project...
anyway...
The previous owner had a little bit of misfortune ... apparently he was in the process of selling the bike and wanted to drop the bike off with a full tank of fuel... Murphy obviously had other plans... on his way back he hit a bothole and ploughed the bike into a field. He survived the crash, the bike not quite...
So a few months later I came along and bought the trashed CB1 '92 for 4000 ZAR (that should translate roughly to about 450 USD in 2006)
The reason why I decided to take the bike was because it was still a runner!! Yessir we just put on a left handlebar and did a few laps around the block. The carbs needed some attention though... ;-)
For the past 2 years I have been working on and off in my garage repairing my new found "joy". Its kindof ironic that I would eventually stumble onto this website in the final month of the project...weird. Rather late than never eh?
Hmmm here goes my first post, lets see if i can figure out how to attatch images to this forum...
-=|UPDATE (2010-03-05)|=-
You can now find ALL the project photos at:

Enjoy! ;-)

Last friday I finished the sprayjob on the tank and bumbox...
There are still a few minor things that need to be done:
I'm still waiting for CB1 stickers as well as the handlebar stoppers to be finished...
I sent the bike in for a Carb tuneup since I don't have the tools and the carbs don't respond according to the repair manual tuning guide...
And I have a small leak on my left fork seal...
thats about it!
Here are a couple of "after" photos (two years later) ;-)

Thanx mate,
I picked up my CB1 stickers this morning and stuck them on the tank while the carbs were being tuned on the dyno.
Its actually quite impressive to see a "master tuner" doing his job.
Fiddling here and tweaking there and with every dyno-run the graphs just get better and better.
Hopefully he will be finished on Monday... can't wait...
The last dyno run I saw, kicked out a max of 48Hp and 31nm at about 11.5 KRPM...
And the oke has not even finished tuning yet ;-)
Quite interesting if you compare it to the specs at:
http://www.totalmotorcycle.com/motorcyclespecshandbook/honda/1989-honda-CB1.htm
Its not too bad if you consider that it is measured on the rear wheel and not on the driveshaft like the manufacturers usually do.
I'll scan the graphs and stick them on the forum after I pick up the bike, somewhere next week ;-)

What was your actual HP on the Dyno?
48 rear wheel bhp sounds about right for the CB-1 to me...
