Hi everyone.
We have just bought a new CB1 for for my wife. Only done 350 km so far, riding it back home from the preveous owner.
Very pleased with it so far, but I would like to give it a bit of TLC.
So far I have changed the brake fluid. This has made the brakes a bit sharper and was well worth doing.
Has anyone found any other service type bits that really benefit form some replacements?
Does anyone have any ideas as to the best places for bits?
Any answers greatly appreciated.

Congrats on your CB-1!    Firstly, whats the condition of the bike?  How many miles/kilometers are on the clocks?  Is it stock or has it been modified?  Has it been sitting for the last few years or ridden up until you purchased it?  And most important, where are you from, so someone can recommend a place of bits for you. 

MY definition of TLC, would be checking over everything from front to rear.  Brake fluid, brake pads, brake lines,(both front and rear), tires, chain, sprockets, coolant level in radiator,(the condition of the coolant), all nuts and bolts, axles- to make sure they are greased. Check the oil?  Is there enough in there?  How clean/dirty is the oil that is in the bike?  Oil filter...

Hi,
The bike is in pretty good condition considering that it is 19 years old. A friend has a similar bit which is lookingh a bit tatty and took 3 hours to start!!!  Mine has 21,000 km on the clock. It seems to be standard, apart from some stickers on the tank. I think the bike has dome only 100 km or so in the last 2 years (before our ownership). Startys first time when cold, but seems to run out of puff at 11,500 rpm.
I changed the oil (and filter) last night, the old oil looked not too bad. The chain was dry, but that is now sorted.
We live in the UK - near Ashby-de-la-Zouch, just of the superb B5324 (great bike road). Google maps will help. A bit off your turf I believe
What would you grease the axel bolts with?

Hi Ian, welcome to the club.

             your bike might benefit from new plugs and it could also be worth checking the air filter. Theres a small "sub-filter" that sits behind the main one. The foam in this can deteriorate, if it has, just take it out, you could replace with some scotch-brite but I've just left mine empty. Keep an eye on your charge rate and the reg/rec. The older ones tend to pack up resulting in the battery burning out, depositing acid on the swing arm. You might find the reg/rec has been replaced already, the better, newer ones have fins as opposed to the original ones which didn't. Check the head race bearings by lifting the front wheel and checking for play or any tight spots while moving the steering. There has been instances of the top engine mounts on the frame cracking so worth checking too. if the bike's been off the road a while, I'd also take the wheels off and give the bearings a once-over. Other than that, there's the usual brake pads & hoses, (if they'tre the original rubber hoses, I'd replace with decent aftermarket ones), and engine oil/filter.

'touch wood' my visits are infrequent, well apart from wing mirrors and levers...and you can all guess how I do that....the latest smashed mirror wasn't my fault....my partner broke it on his sticky outy seat pack in Grindlewald last week! twit.
