Whats up all, just wondering if any of you guys have used autolite spark plugs instead of the ngk's that the Honda dealer recommends? The only reason I'm hesitant is because the autolite plugs seems to thread in further...The threads are longer on the autolite spark plugs. Anyone?  Thanks

Im not a mechanic, but I did read somewhere that if using a spark plug that is a little longer than the recommended ones, just change them sooner than you normally would.  Something about carbon build-up on those exposed threads may make it harder to remove them...

i am a mechanic, and i would not install a plug that is longer, especially on the CB-1. the piston to head clearance is VERY close due the domed design of the pistons.

Thanks guys. I am hesitant for that reason dummyracer...But I imagine autolite wouldnt be selling a spark plug that would damage the engine...Has anyone actually used them?  Thanks again

Your welcome.  I use ngk's in my 1.  This is what I read, then I started using them.  I've not had any problems with them at all.

No problem.  What he said, seem to make sense to me so I tried them.  I changed them between back to back race weekends and throttle response felt quicker to me.  So every year, I put in fresh plugs.  Now if I only knew how to "high velocity port the heads...  Grin

That site, has alot of information on it.   www.mototuneusa.com

I havn't heard many glowing, (get it), reports about any of the aftermarket so called "miracle" plugs, esp "Splitfire". Will be getting some CR9EKs this weekend Wink

The CR9EKs are what I have been using since my first year of racing, back in 2000.

right then here goes , I've been very careless and am deeply ashamed and need to confess to a major potential ***k up that woulda been potentially nasty. first off I bought a Mazda MX 5 / Miata last autumn / fall and didnt really ride the -1 all winter, (forgive a soft southerner)anyway the spring came and a young mans thoughts turned to  more exciting pursuits and I set about making ready for the "riding season" Grin got a new rear tyre, sorted new brake pads ,got the MOT test outta the way and got the idea that getting a bit more power would be good. asked my mechanic mate to  remove the bastard 33HP restrictions and ordered some new plugs from a normally reliable web supplier, said friend removed offending restricting washers, cleaned carbs and called to say bike was ready to go but wasnt running all that well. He reckoned that I had a bad plug cap or lead/coil. I decided to get a replacement coil pack of the flea bay as I'd had 1 plug cap go tits up allready, when it arrived fitted new bits started er up :lovely, all was well, went for immediate test ride, went really well for about 2 miles then started missing again!! checked everything again , big sparks etc so removed plug no4 only to find that I'd fitted a CPR8EA9 instead of CR8EH9 !!!!
there followed many expletives followed by some hasty phone calls and old plugs going back in. on closer inspection the CPR plug had been struck( many many times!!) by the piston and had actually closed the gap completely causing the misfire, the bike was actually telling the idiot riding it what was wrong!!  Well she seems to be ok so far and with restrictors finally out  I can finally join the rest of you at 13000 rpm and smile like a loon but please don't be as daft as me and check EVERYTHING that you fit on, and dont assume !! In my defense all the plugs came in identical packaging except for serial no's on the end  and I was gagging to get going!!

ps the company supplying sent a profuse apology and replacements PDQ I reckon some dip threw a returned odd plug in the wrong bin and I got it picked by another dip!  of course Iwas the dip that fitted it Tongue
