Hi everyone,

I am looking to pick up my first starter bike and have located a 1989 cb-1 that is close by that seems to be perfect.  I called the guy selling it and it seems to be in good condition for an older bike.  It has 37,000 miles on it, brand new brakes, and is mechanically sound.  It was laid down once by the previous owner which scratched the clutch cover, the exhaust, and put a dent in the side of the gas tank.  He said he has a brand new clutch cover for it waiting to be put on.  Other than that he said it is in great condition and the only thing it could use is a new rear tire relatively soon.  He was asking 1500 for it but he said he would go down to 1300.  I don't know a ton about what these bikes are worth so I would really appreciate some input on whether or not this is a good deal.  Thanks a lot for the help.

Edit:  Here are some pictures of the bike.  Yes, it only has one ugly mirror in the picture but I have talked to him and he does have two better looking mirrors on the bike now

Anytime you can get something for less than what its being asked for, is a good thing!  In my mind, I wonder if he could turn down $1000 cash....  Hmmm

Yeah, getting it for a cheaper than advertised is definitely a good thing.  I just would like some input on if it is a good price for the description i stated.  I pushed for 1200 and he wouldnt budge off 1300, he said anything less and he would be losing to much money.

Wow! Nice pics!
Can't wait to make mine as shiny as yours.
BTW, how's the KERKER sounds like?
Would be great if I could hear the KERKER on CB-1. Grin

Hello,

The dent on the tank does not look too bad, it might be repairable by having a paintless dent removal shop correct it.  I had several dings removed from a car I have, and the panels are as straight as new.  The guy said that he also works on motorcycle tanks, but must see the tanks/panels and make a case by case determination.

The aftermarket Kerker exhaust slip-on was expensive, Kerker was purchased by Supertrap and most new Supertrap/Kerker systems are very desirable.  They are much more durable than the OEM systems, and are lighter for the overall weight savings to the bike.  They are tuneable, to to some degree you can adjust their report.  I have a period correct Kerker slip on my CB-1, and I have had other CB-1 owners offer me an entire OEM exhaust in a trade for my Kerker.  But I am holding onto the Kerker - it sounds awesome!

Another point to consider is at 37K miles, ask about the stator.  The coils on CB-1's sometimes begin to wear and can cause problems with the firing and revving seqences for the engine.

Good luck!

Thanks for all of the replies so far.  So 1300 is a fair price for the bike?  I am going to look at and hopefully drive home the bike tonight.

I tried doing some research on the kerker exhaust and every slip on i found was expensive so im pretty excited to hear it in person.

I will let you all know what the outcome is

I thought about painting mine that green color, and now that I see this one, I definitely am.

Absolutely beautiful bike you've got there.

that is a lovely looking bike and for something that's been dropped it doesn't look all that damaged, mine was dropped before i got it and all the same damage as your's had but looked 10 times worse and i spent 1500 euro on it so i'd say 1300 ain't bad at all!
