I just picked up my 89 cb-1 and had a quick question.  The previous owner did the tail light mod so it is flush with the rear fender, has anyone else done that on here?  My only concern is the seat lock was removed to do the mod.  I guess i'm just looking for a little more info on this and if it is a common thing to do.

Thanks!

BTW, i will be putting up pictures here in the next few days of my new bike

Congrats on the purchase!  Did you pay 1300?  You can still find the helmet locks for sale on ebay, lots of bikes still use the same mechanism that the CB-1 had as OEM. Grin

Thanks! The ride home was great, except for the fact that it was about 45 degrees outside.  I wanted to get the seat lock and the cable and everything to try and make the seat release functional again.

The actual lock is shared on these bikes, should be easy to find at a scrap yard, might be hard to find one with a key but they can be sorted too:-

Same for the catch:-

Thanks for that.  Is it possible to just unlock the lock and leave it unlocked with the key out of it or do i have to have the key in to have it unlocked?

For the whole thing to work as intended, you'll need the key. The catch is spring loaded, when you turn the key on the lock, it pulls on a cable which in turn opens the catch to release the latch on the seat itself. If it's any help, I can get this:-

You'd still need a catch but at least you'd have a key & lock and if you wanted you could swap the ignition and cap over and have 1 key for all. Wink

I already have to use two keys, one for the gas tank and one for the ignition, so this could be a huge favor for me. If i did the conversion correctly that would only be about 30 dollars??  If so, how much do you think it would cost after all of the shipping and everything to the US?  It would be absolutely amazing if you could swing that for me if it's not to expensive.  Please let me know asap since it ends in four days.

Parts from Japan have a handling fee of $5 US for anything up to 1,000 yen, $10 for anything up to 10,00 yen then $10 per 10,000 yen. Shipping in Japan is quite cheap and I get stuff sent over in bulk to save on post. There's normaly a $2 bank transfer fee too and don't forget the 5% that Paypal like to squeeze out of us for the transfer. There seems to be a bit of a lull in CB-1 parts right now, maybe we're getting to the end of the stockpile Sad
