uk riders have to wear a helmet, carry insurance, pay "road" tax, have the bike tested for roadworthiness anually (called the MOT test) and probably pay more tax in the cost of fuel than anywhere in the US. if there is an accident with one or more of the driver/riders not insured the claim can go to an uninsured loss fund, which the big insurance companies provide, funded by all the insured people!! the cost of insuring a 17 yr old rider is more than the fine for riding without insurance, so guess what happens!!!
the UK government seems to want to price us off the road with parking fees and harder bike licence testing, congestion charging etc but there are groups that fight for bikers rights like MAG and the Motor Cycle News carries a lot of stories about crazy new proposals.
Florida sounds great but I thought it had a reputation as a place to retire to?

here where i live they are startin to be very pro bike and scooter. drivin a car is beginin to be crazy in Toronto. more traffic lights more this more that lol. but they seem to want more two wheelers on the road. parking is free (legal parking areas and times) we have a graduated license here m1, m2 then full m. they even now have a m-limited for the yuppies that only want to ride scooters dont need to take a highway test. i dont think i pay all that much 4 insurance either 800 for the year.

In Virginia, we pay taxes, insurance is required to register any vehicle(the uninsured motorist fee, is just a bill, you still have to get insurance), we have yearly inspections, and helmets are mandatory.

The only states I know off the top of my head that don't require helmets are Hawaii, South Carolina, and Florida. I'm sure there's at least a few more.

Hi Mrbones,
I have imported my used Honda CB1 from Dubai to India, but its not getting cleared from Indian customs because i dont have the original price. Customs need the original value of the bike so that they can so the valuation for custom duty.

Can you please help me with the value, or if you know any site which have the original value so do email me on ashipra@live.com

I would be highly grateful for your help.
Thanks & Best Regards

WHERE DOES THE EXCISE TAX GO?
The town that collects the excise tax can use it as revenue towards the annual town budget. Typically, the revenue is spent on local road maintenance, construction and repair.

As mentioned already the UK has a Road Excise Duty (tax) payed on a scale according to cc,type of propulsion, low emission, etc.
The duty collected was originally spent on road modernisation and repair,  but Like all politicians and prime ministers, the Road Excise Duty goes to help pay for nhs and letting asylum seekers to live a life of proverbial luxury here in UK.
