I'm new, pleased to meet you all. First order of business. Ok, so this guy in Denton, TX wants a grand for his bike. It is not street legal and needs a headlight, mirrors, license plate, signals, and it needs to be registered. it's in kinda bad condition, it has no tach and and it's a bit beat up. He let it sit for a few years, needs the carbs cleaned. Can one of you fine people give me an estimate for what it should be worth?
And could any of you tell me what I should do to make it street legal? Thanks.

Did he give you a reason as to why the bike needs to be registered? That one has me scratching my head... I can understand it not being street legal, like it has no lights on it because it was a race bike, but the "needs to be registered", I have no clue. You should ask him why it needs to be registered... A side from that, it sounds like its trashed. To have no headlight, mirrors, signals, makes me think that it was a track bike as some point. Sounds like he fell on it, while on the track, messed it up, and wasnt able to get it fixed. I wouldnt pay 500 for it.

definately not worth a grand. You would be hard pressed to replace all the missing parts with stock. You will end up putting more money into it than a good condition one is worth. Plus with that amount of neglect, it makes you wonder what else is wrong

Perhaps I mispoke. It's not inspected, and yes, it was used as a track bike.

I agree with kneepuck on this one. There is no telling what else is wrong with that bike. You may end up spending a fortune just trying to get this running. My gut feeling, is that there is a reason why he never tried to fix it and ride it again. I would passed on this one. It just does not sound like a good deal to me... Just my 2 cents...

My thoughts after looking at the pics... If you want to ride it on the street, you are going to spend lots of time just finding what is needed to make it street legal, (headlight, brake light, turn signals, mirrors, etc) Is the wiring harness still stock so that you can easily hook up the lights wiring? Are the mounting points still present for the lights to be mounted? Is the sub frame still stock? Do you still have the seat? Carbs will need to be cleaned regardless of how you intend to ride it. Whats the condition of the tires? Tread? Any signs of dry rotting? Is there a clean title on the spare frame? How did he acquire that spare frame?Who knows how many miles are on it... Pics look like a bad case of child abuse....

I agree with ptlcb1 and kneepuck. The cost and trouble of putting this bike back on the street could easily exceed what you buy the bike for. For the amount you will have invested you could find a very nice original bike. A track bike will have for sure spent a great deal of its' life near the rev limiter. If you are looking for a track only bike it might be worth looking at but a non-runner, no matter what the owner says is not worth very much. Engine problems? Transmission problems? Clutch problems? Seized brake calipers? Warped rotors? Corroded master cyls? Was the engine stored with nothing other than water in the cooling system? That can create all kinds of problems and most track bikes are run that way or only with water wetter which does little to prevent corrosion and deposits in the cooling system.
Save your money on this one and look for a street bike that will cost much less in the long run.
