With the age of our bikes getting up there, it may be a good idea for everyone to check for frame cracks at the upper engine mount. I knew this might be a problem on down the road, so yesterday I took my frame to my friends machine shop. We cut gussets to help spread the engine weight at the upper mounts. When he was getting ready to weld them in place he found the start of a small crack. While welding the gussets in place, he also fixed the crack. Now all is better and the gussets are awesome!

I also cut off the exhaust hanger bracket. My friend made some new mounts. I set up the frame for them by drilling two 1/2" holes through the frame. He then welded these new mounts through the frame. Now I can use the non-US model exhaust bracket or make my own. I'll be setting up my CB-1 rebuild web site soon so I will post photos as I go.

Oh cool, I just noticed you're in Lake Villa.  I'm in Aurora.  Maybe I'll get to see it in the flesh at some point.

Aurora is not all that far, so anytime you want to stop by and see what little  Grin progress I have made on it, just let me know. I always have time to visit with fellow enthusiasts.
