PROJECT CB-1RR
«

Today I will be getting my frame and other bits back from powder coating. I had the frame and triple trees painted in a semi-gloss black. I have decide that I will not be going with the super show bike Harley Davidson finish. Parts will be polished, but not to a mirror finish.
I have given my project the name "CB-1RR". The bike is being built from the ground up and though it resembles a CB-1, it will not be a CB-1 as we know them. That is the decal that will go on the tank as well. Across the top it will say "HONDA" and under that it will have "CB-1RR".
My web site for this project is
http://www.6axlepwr.com/HONDA_CB1.html
. By next week I will have photos of the frame modification up and a detailed explanation of what was done and why. The first page is still being edited and updated, but I have started it.

The frame is at powder coating now. I'll pick it up this week and get photos of the frame mods up on my site.
Next on the list is to get the swing arm polished and a few other bits and order the Ti bolts.

Last night I took apart my wheels. I have a set of Honda MAGTEK wheels from an NSR250R (MC21). It turns out the CBR400RR axle fits it perfectly. So I completely disassembled them and removed all the bearings. I have on order now all new bearings for the front and rear wheel as well as axle bushings, cush drive parts and such. Some of the stuff I could get here and others I had to order from Japan. Today I am going to stop by my local machine shop and have them make me a new bearing spacer from aluminum. I am also going to have them turn dowm the outside face of the sprocket carrier to clean it up.
I have two tasks at hand with the wheels. For the rear wheel I need to make sure the sprocket lines up correctly with the countershaft sprocket on the engine. If not, it is easy to have spacer plates made to fix this. For the front wheel, I need to make sure I can get the rotors to line up with the calipers. This again should not be a difficult task. The wheel sets I have are somehow setup perfectly to accept spacer plates without detracting from the look of the wheel and allow anything match up.
While at the machne shop I am also going to look at having some custom clipons made. Ones that mount like the CBR929RR clipons, but have the same height and angle as the CB-1 Clipons.
I am trying to decide what color to paint the wheels. Since they are magnesium, polishing to a mirror finish is not going to work. They will tarnish to quickly. The bike colors are going to be red & black with polished parts such as case covers, side panels, swing arm, fork tubes, calipers and such as well as shiney bolt heads. So I am thinking the wheels should be black, but I am also thinking maybe I should have the wheels painted red. I am leaning toward a gloss black though.

Hi Brian,
please have a look here to make your job a bit easier:
http://hondacb1.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=CB1Discussion&action=display&thread=130&page=1
Also unless you really want the USD look, consider CBR 918 fireblade forks, you can even use the original yokes I think. I base that on the fact that a CBR40 wheel fits a CB-1 with original spacers, and also a CBR 918 with original spacers. Then you could also use original CB-1 clip-ons, so it would be a bit "stealth" and more period looking. You would get RWU Ohlins for a VF1000R and I personally reckon the CB-1 suits the RWU better?
Thanks,
Aaron
