It's quite simple. Remove your seat, undo the fuel and breather lines to your gas tank (under the tank), remove the tank, and the air filter box is right there. remove the top and replace your filter. Where did you get your filter from by the way? Does anyone know if they make after market filters that are better than the stock?

What's wrong with the Honda filters? Or have you tuned your bike? I've never heard of any pattern ones - I don't think Honda would let anyone sell them for very long. Some owners have replaced the paper element with foam, I've bought a cheap Honda Car filter that I'm going to have a go at transplanting the paper from, (thought a foam one might lean the mixture a bit too much).

As far as I know there is nothing wrong with Honda filters...just curiosity, always been a fan of K&N in my car. Is it recommended to change the round foam filters for the intakes at the same time?

K&N make nice stuff.  Shame they never bothered to produce a filter for the #1.  Maybe they couldnt do any better than the stock?!  They do make oil filters for our bikes but whether they are actually any better remains to be seen?

I built my own K&N for my bike.
1. remove the old filter,
2. Take a dremel tool or jewel saw and cut out the old filter out of the middle of the plate.
3. measure the plate keeping about 1/4 to 1/2 in from the edges (needs clearance for lid)
4. go to K&N webpage and search for filters by size
5. buy filter,
6. buy small piece of tin aproximately the size of the filter plate (the K&N I bought wasn't as long as original filter but it was wider)
7. cut square/ rectangle out of the tin to fit your K&N filter as well as the plate
8. trim edges of tin to fit into filter plate
9. use black silicone sealant to glue tin to plate and then K&N to tin

gives an awsome sound... but if you read my other posts, I now need to adjust my carbs or rejet, getting more air!
