Evening all, my mates just offered me an exhaust for my -1, but iv got the 1 piece exhaust and was wondering what would be the best way to chop the old one off and mount the new one?

If your exhaust is OK, then leave well alone. You have to have a link pipe custom made out of stainless. I've seen good jobs and bad jobs, but it is a specialist job which you are going to have to pay someone to do - unless you can bend and flare 52mm stainless pipe by hand Wink

Have a flick through here for some ideas:

Please note my bike had 92-99 fireblade rear peg hangers which increase clearance (see the pictures with the red crosshairs for comparison). If you don't use these, the aftermarket cans are bigger than the original and will restrict ground clearance. One rider decked his can, and it lifted the bike up - his bike was totalled.
My bike also had the cbr400 swingarm and some aftermarket rearsets, without those the stubby/moto GP can idea would just not work.
So this, assuming your bike is standard, is only for ideas.

As said, it was "custom made". It was made by a chap named Mr Tattoo for his CB-1 which got trashed. He kept that bit and I ended up with it. There are various exhaust and pipe bending places that can do this for you. Yellow pages...

The diameter of the std. link pipe is 52mm, this one was the same. It flared at the bottom to go over the original pipe.

Are you getting the idea yet that it is a serious amount of hassle to do this?

Thanks. Got to say I always thought it was one of the nicest CB-1s I'd seen or seen pictures of. If I'd kept it, I had a pair of 6 spoke NC29 wheels to fit, I reckon then it would have been pretty near finished on visuals, though I kept meaning to knock up heel plates, too. I even had a bit of nice CF to chop up, just never did it.

Maybe one day I wil even own it again.

96 Blade (00 seat unit, 17" front, K2 GSXR750 brakes, few other bits)

97 Diversion (remus full system, uprated brakes, front springs, couple other bits)

The difference of the two swingers is as above, look of the thing, plus the "gull"arm factor that allows you to mess abot a bit more with the exhaust.

You can fit either, it's just a question of which you prefer the look of. The rear wheels are interchangable, the engines are the same so the frame rail width would be the same... it really is just down to looks, and I think both look nice.

Unless you have any plan to do a motoGP stubby exhaust, you don't really need the gull effect. And you'd need footpeg risers to get that to work anyway.
