Hi Guys,

I just bought a 1991 Honda CB-1 less than a week ago and I bought the bike knowing it had a broken choke cable. Not a bad trade off considering the bike was really well maintained and I got a great deal too.

I have been asking around and looking everywhere for a choke cable. Does anyone have one I can purchase?
I'm not sure if a 1989 CB-1 choke cable would fit a 1991, can anyone varify that for me?

I'm also looking for engine covers for both sides as the bike's engine cover has scratches on both sides. If you got spares I would love to take them off your hands.

Cheers

These choke cables are going to be a real problem. They're NLA yet seem to be the easiest to snap. I had a few new ones but have only got one left now, I might send it to Venhill and find out how much they can do 20 cables for.

I know, I have been looking everywhere for this cable and no luck. Let me know how much once you get an answer from Venhill.

Thanks for your help

Raein, if your still stuck, you can have the new spare one I have, I can always use the one of my bike to get copies made. I've got to much other stuff to do right now.

Ah, a new development - I was at the Stafford Classic Motorcycle Mechanics show this weekend and was talking to a guy with a stand there who can make up cables from the last new one I have cheaper than I think Venhill can do them for. When I get home I'll send him the cable and se how much they will cost. Raein, if you're desperate, you can use the one off my second bike for now, untill the new ones are sorted.

Drewski you are an awesome guy, I will let you know if I need it. I spoke with a local Honda dealership about the choke cable and they said that a choke cable from a 1988 Honda Hurricane will fit the CB1 so I got one on order. Now I just got to find the time and the know how to remove the old choke and install the new one.

I'm a total rookie and this is my first bike. Any pointers on how to get to the choke would be really helpful. I'm thinking I have to remove the gas tank, especially since I have to check where that gas small is coming from.

Drewski thanks again for the offer, I will know soon if I need it   Cheesy

You gotta remove the petrol tank and air box, it's under both and between carb 2&3? the two middle ones!

Raein, theres a short description in this post how to get to the choke cable. The end of the cable is clamped on to the carb frame, when you have undone it there, you'll need to undo the switch gear by the two screws underneath, (don't damage them), once the cable is undone at the carb, you wll have enough play to pull it out of the lever on the bars. When you install the new one, adjust it until the cable just starts to operate the choke on the carbs then back it off half a turn. It's good if you have found another cable that works, there should be a few out there.

Be careful with those airbox screws, they can be very tight Wink

Well gentlemen I thought I'd let you guys know that I got my choke cable fixed however it was a bit of a process. Turns out the 1989 Honda Hurricane choke cable is a little bit longer than the CB1 choke cable so I had to take it and get it modified. Its all fixed and cost me a little more morning but it needed to get done, the weather here is getting really cold.

Anyways, don't take my advice on the Hurricane choke unless you have too.
Drewski thanks for the offer on the choke cable, let me know if you ever get any made, I'll definitely buy a spare if you got extras.
And thanks to all who helped me out.

Cheers

for anyone really stick you can operate the chokes main linkage with your finger,

It takes a little practice but you can push your finger in between the upper engine mount and coolent pipes on the left hand side the end of the linkage rod sticks out a little from the carb body this is the part you push and should get you close to full choke,
