Hi Guys,

Its been almost 3 weeks have had my and well the weather is starting to get bad so I was going to put it on my uncles garage for the next week cuz its going to be raining like crazy.... anyways...

While it was in my uncles garage we could smell gasoline and alot of it. I didn't see any leaks or anything but when I tested my fuel valve by putting it on off and running the bike until it stopped and it never did. I drove it around the block with the fuel valve on off and the bike never stopped, I'm guessing its broken.

Can anyone help me out with any suggestions?

My dad and I want to take off the gas tank and check the fuel valve but we cant if the fuel valve doesnt work and the tank has gas in it. Also, if we have to buy a new fuel valve can we get any valve from a shop and use it or are the CB1's specific?

Cheers

Sounds like you'll have to syphon the fuel from the tank first - then examine the petcock. Your bound to spill a small amount of fuel but as long as you're not sm,oking, I wouldn't worry too much. New tap assemblies are still available here in Europe for about $80 US. I've never actauly seen repair kits for sale, neither have I had to repair any of mine.

The bike will run surprisingly far with the valve closed. Mine will easily go around the block and in fact several kilometres if you are riding easy. Just make sure by going for a longer ride unless you are sure you rode far enough.

Well I idled the bike for a couple minutes waiting for it to turn of but then I ended up driving it around the block and back home and it was still running strong. I found a petcock for a 1990 CB1 for $70 CAD which should fit my 91.

We shall see, I really appreciate the replies. I will let you know how it goes and once I get the valve fixed and the smell gone.

Cheers

I had a simmilar problem with my old CB-1, i ws missing an over flow tube that ran from under the tank to under the engine, hence when the bike beeth warm on a full tank and leant on side stand overflow would drip petrol onto the top of my engine, as for driving with the fuel tap off i've brought it a good 10 km only for the bike to dye and me wondering what the hell is wrong as i only filled the tank yesterday (i shouldn't be telling this story) anyway half an hour later my mate on a hornet 250 gettin annoyed at having to waist such a nice day looks at the bike, double takes slaps me on the head and points to the fuel tap, so around the block aint gonna kill the engine!
