Regarding Something Different

Hey David,
You have to admit, the pic of your bike does make it appear that the back end is higher than normal. You have a nice looking bike, and I think anyone that posted in that thread would agree. Like I posted after your first post containing the pics, I like the look of your bike! We were not getting on your case, just giving our opinion based on the pic. I hope you did not take our opinions personally, therefore locking that thread. IF your engine was slanted forward, then oil capacity could be an issue. You stated that it was not, so its all good.
You took your CB-1 in a different direction regarding its look and its a great look! We meant no harm.

It's not "the angle of the ground and the camera" that makes the engine look slanted, it's the fact he has used a very over-length rear shock. You can tell by the gap between the seat and the rear wheel, and/or the angle of the swingarm when compared to a standard bike.
To reply to the post in there, yes you can measure the oil before putting it in, but CB-1s are now all nearing 20 years old. If you can find me one that
never
needs oil between changes, I'd bite your hands off to buy it. With the engine at that angle, the dipstick level will probably guide you to put at least an extra half litre of oil in. If on the other hand you put the specified volume of oil in and ignore the level, there will be bits that should be bathed in oil, running dry.
Did I mention the fact that the handling will be severely compromised by that mod too, with the bike tending to be unstable at high speed and under braking, due to the much reduced rake angle? It's all true. Also the fact the chain will not run correctly is a fact.
As posted in that thread it's a nice looking bike, but that particular mod is too much of a compromise of practicality and even safety just for the benefit of aesthetics.
Still, it's just a machine and if it pleases its owner then that's fine, just as long as he knows what he's done. By the last post in the thread, seems like he doesn't acknowledge it. And that's both a shame, and dangerous.

One thing not known is whether or not David is....no offence... a 'fat bastard' as the shock would compress under the riders weight. But will still be crap fully extended.

In 12k km I have had the bike, not one drop. The oil level never moves between oil changes!
Total mileage is only 20,000 km though. Sorry, not for sale no matter who's hands you bite off.

He locked the thread because he sold the bike, not because you guys annoid him...lol
Honestly, you opinion doesn't matter.
1. The shock is not to big...its the stock shock with a spacer
2. The bike rides fine
Anyways, it is off to a new owner...so maybe they will register for the site, and you can continue your lengthy discussion of a bike you have never road.

It seems to have been the craze over the last few years to raise the back end on a lot of older bikes. I suppose it's because the 80s bikes look a bit old fasioned now. I remember when it was the same in the eighties with people sticking fatter tyres on the back of 70s bikes - also with disasterous results. Of course, if you want to raise the back end, you need to remove the sub frame and replace it in a higher position. Replacing the shock with a bigger one, using a spacer or, as is popular with some bikes, swapping over the dog bones for shorter ones will usualy end in tears. When these bikes are designed, the geometry is worked out for optimum performance so changing it all around is not a great idea. However, looks are very important to a lot of bikers and they are quite happy to sacrifice handling for a few admiring glances on the high street - and who are we to say they are wrong. A mate of mine once built a chopper and when he got it on the road he couldn't see over the risers to the road

Why not just say that he sold it, instead of locking the thread... None of our opinions matter, but the nature of forums is the expression of peoples opinions. He posted pics of his bike and that is what gave the green light for any and all to give their opinion of what we thought of his bike. He altered the look of his bike and as I said before, it looked nice to me. I dont have to ride it to know that just by looking at it, it would not handle as well as a stock 1. No doubt the geometry is different. For a street bike it probably does ride fine, because of the limits the law places on street riding. It is or was his bike, and he chose to make it look like a street fighter with the high back end. I wonder just how large that spacer was...

I bought mine at 34400 km and now has 66289 km and now it does not consume oil
Am a pretty big guy for this little bike and when on the highway I rev it to the max and have ridden it several times from place to place at max speed**.Oil is never on the lowest mark
**Max Speed = with 15/37 when the speedo reads 180km/h the gps reads 150kmh.rpms at around 11~12.5k
