OK cool. Screwed the thread in the sump and the plug won't torque. A friend suggested that I get a tapered plug?  Huh Undecided

Don't get a tapered plug !!!!!!
There are three proper ways to fix this.

1. Replace the pan. (too expensive !)
2. Helicoil the existing hole. (Effective repair if done correctly)
3. Get a larger diameter drain plug. The CB-1, like most Honda's, uses a 12mm drain plug. Some other manufacturers use a 14mm. Cut the threads for the 14mm plug, and install with a new gasket.

Have you tried to just re-tap the hole? If it isn't completely stripped you might be able to get enough thread to torque it . Probably the easiest and cheapest followed by the Heli-coil.

Have a look here?

I gave a whole cb-1 engine away not so long ago. Never did hear back from the bloke who took it whether it worked or not, but I know the sump would've been OK!

@a_morti, cool, I'll call them tomorrow.

Think I will go the sump route. Anything else bar the tapered plug will require an engine rebuild and the tapered plug sounds like a bodge.  If I can get a cheap sump it'll be the best solution.

The sump, or as I call it, the oil pan, bolts to the bottom of the engine.
No need for an engine rebuild.
I have a friend at a Honda dealer who says he can still order a new oil pan for about $120.00 my cost. Let me know if you're interested.

@Drew, thanks for the offer pal but I see your in Brum now.  Might try and bump start later if i get a moment.

You tried David Silvers? Part number is 11398-MN4-920 starngely superceeded by 11398MN4920 Huh
If you can't get one, get a piece of gasket paper and copy your old one. If the old one is in one piece and you tighten the sump bolts equaly, you might be ok without a new one.

Incidentally, I see David Silvers still have a new cylinder(s) in stock, selling for only £129 Shocked Shocked CSMNL have them listed for 960 Euros.
