got me bt021's on the front (had these put on for the mot last may) and trying to get bt45 for the rear, only to be told this totally wrong as the 2 tyres are a differant mix i.e the front radial tyre and the rear is a ply. is this true?

Aye, 90% of Bridgestone tyres are designed to be used as pairs, there are very few exceptions to the ule and I don't think the CB-1 will fall into that catergory. I'd stick with a pair of BT45s or, if you're a faster rider, BT090s. 'Don't know about the 021s but the 020s I had on my RD were grippy but didn't last at all so would stick to BT45s - they're excellent tyres IMO.

I agree with the BT45's, I have a set on my -1. I don't ride particularly hard but get the feeling that they have more grip then I hope I will ever need!

I'd go with the BT45's, but I just hate the design pattern on the rear tire.
I'm leaning towards the BT-090 as you mentioned. Do you have any experience on those Drew? The design pattern is much better and I'm sure it grips the road pretty good as well. TIA.

If tire life is not as great a concern as stick I can HIGHLY recommend the BT003R. It is amazing even on cold roads. I have no idea what the life is going to be but the comfort level is such that I will live with a shorter life if needed. Transitions in to turns is very comfortable and whacking the throttle wide open mid turn is more fun than it should be. This is the first time since I have been riding the cb-1 that I did not feel like the front end was the limiting factor. These tires are really well matched balance wise front to rear on the -1. I suspect that the guys who use their bikes for more than a weekend toy may find the life unacceptably short but for me that is not the case.
After touching a painted line mid-turn several years ago at a very high speed and losing the front end till I was completely out of road I am pretty sensitive to front/rear balance of grip.

Did you go with the 150/70ZR/17 on the BT-021...? Because I don't see them at 140/70/17.
Would the 150 fit the stock rear rim without any modification? Just from looking at it, looks like it might rub the chain guard. Anyone know for sure?
thanks.

If you can find some, you can fit CBR400 wheels to a CB-1.
The front wheel is the same as the CBR400 NC29, VFR400 NC30 + NC35, CBR600 around 95, VFR750 around 95 and various other. It slots straight in, all you would have to do is open up the brake disc threads to M8, then you have 6-spoke wheel with option for two discs. Original spacers re fine.
You can also use the CBR400 Gullarm rear wheel so you can use the 150 tyre. I guess it might be the same as the earliest CBR 600? Again, just a little playing with spacers and it's in there, same disc, sprocket carrier (I think) and you get those lovely 6-spoke wheels

I thought about having duel disks on the front and thought of buying a sf400 front wheel as they're pretty much the same as the -1 but then i figured out that there is nowhere to mount the second brake calliper on the -1 forks

91 cb-1...you can use the lower left leg from a nt650 (I think Bros where you are) to have a mount for a second caliper.
It is a direct swap into our upper tubes.
On this side of the pond, people are looking for CB1 lowers so they can do double discs on the Hawk!

I had a set off a crashed bike, uppers were buckled but the lowers were perfect, only just chucked them last month cause i thought there'd be no interest in them. will keep that leg idea in mind cheers.
