So, my fuel pump isn't working.

Checked the wires giving it power (Blue/black stripe & Green) with a multimeter and get 12v when ignition switch is on.

Even thought pump won't work - I connect it straight up to the battery and it definitely works!

So - what the hell is going on? It doesn't work when hooked up as normal - even though the wires giving it juice read 12v! (All connectors are fine).

Anybody with any ideas? I'm supposed to be going travelling for 2 weeks on the thing from next weekend!

I think your find the connectors are heavily corroded and need lots of WD40, its probably just a poor connection

Thanks for the reply - but the connectors are actually brand new!

Moreover, one half of the connection (on the wires coming from fuel cutoff relay) shows 12v reliably at the connectors, while the other half (i.e. the fuel pump wires) make the thing work no problem at all when connected direct to the battery. So the connectors on both sides seem totally fine!

Very confused - but your advice of going over the basics is worth repeating. Any other suggestions in the meantime greatly appreciated!

The pump will only pump if the carbs float bowl needs it, it dosen't come on with just the ignition switch, engine has to crank before pump kicks in
