Hi folks.
Does anyone happen to have the right hand switch gear for a 1989 cb-1?  or know where I could get one from?
Would the one from the nc27 fit?
Thanks  Smiley

NC27 is the Honda designation for the CB-1 so yes it will fit. Grin

Would the switch gear from the cb500 fit?

I picked up a pair of 500 switches to replace mine but ended up finding a new set of CB-1 swiches in the end. I've just had a quick look for the 500 ones to compare them but they must be burried somewhere. I'll have another look later and see if I can dig them out. I'm fairly sure it would be an easy swap over and the 500 ones don't have that horrible finsh that fades like old leather.

Thanks Drewski! I've seen smomeone selling the cb-1 switch but it's faded to cr@p. Mine is warped so needs replacing. The ones for the cb500 seem cheaper as well.

I found the 500 switches but the RH one is damaged Angry Anyway, the pics wil give you an idea if it will fit. I was just going to check the 500 wiring diagram and go from there. I do have two new CB-1 switches but as they're now NLA from Honda I wouldn't let them go for less than retail price - sorry Embarrassed

You don't want to know - believe me Wink

OK, you asked, CMSNL have them listed at 102 Euros - except they are no longer available. I couldn't be that mercenary Embarrassed

Here is the trick with these handle switches -- Honda used the same housing/switch types for almost all of their full-size streetbikes from this era.

The problem is that the wiring harness/connector types are different for each and every model.  This makes direct replacement seemingly impossible.

It turns out, though, that the actual individual switches inside the handle switch housing can be easily disassembled, and the contacts on each switch come out fully intact with the associated wires soldered on.  What this means is, if you do if very carefully, you can straighforwardly replace your entire switch wiring loom with the old one.

If you still have your old switch with the stock wiring you can just pick up any used (or new and available) Honda right hand switch and simply remove your wires from the old CB-1 switch and replace them in the new switch housing.  And, Viola!  You have a new CB-1 switch.

The switches themselves (for horn, start/kill, ignition, etc.) are VERY fragile (just thin plastic housings that slot together and then fit inside the housing) so be VERY careful when taking them apart.

I did just this thing for the 1989 Honda GB500 I just picked up.  Old switch housings wer trashed but were 'no longer available' from Honda and cost a mint when they were -- but I picked up some 1993 CB750 switches in prefect shape for $20 each on Ebay, carefully swapped the wiring, and have brand new-looking switches on the bike that work perfectly.

Hope this helps.

Thanks David. I might give that a go. I'll remember to be gentle with the switches Smiley.
