Just my opinion, but I dont think you need a damper on a CB-1 if you are just street riding.  Are you experiencing any types of head shakes?

Thanks. No, but I haven't really pushed it yet. I was just wondering if it was a problem the cb-1 was prone to? And if so I'd take action to prevent it happening. A friend of mine had a bandit400 and they said it was terrible with out the damper.
I'll give it a few more months to see if I find a problem when I get more used to the bike.  Smiley

My feeling is that a steering damper is totally unnecessary on a CB-1 on the street. If you experience headshake the bike has something wrong.

I totally agree with clarkdw.  A damper isnt needed for street riding.  If you experience head shake, you may need to check your head bearings.  I am not surprised about the Bandit doing it.  It did not have the build quality of the CB-1.  I know you know, but I have to mention it anyway..."pushing it" on the street is a dangerous game.  Too many variables that you have no control over.  Be careful.

I tank slapped one time. It was on rough pavement and I was being stupid. Luckily I stayed up.
To fit a damper you need to find one for a bike with a 41mm fork tube. Then you remove the left cover and use the bolt hole to connect it.

I'm afraid steering head problemsweren't the only thing that ws wrong with the bandit 400, it was suzuki's answer to honda's cb400/sf, as the trade goe honda developed the cb400 as a production bike not as competition to any other bike on the market therefor the build quality was top of the range as you would expect from honda anyway, also they based it on the bandit seies ie the 600 engine that was also bored out to be the 1200 or the other way round i'm not that sure of the fine details, so instead of going out to produce a 400 for the market they got a very good bike the bandit 6 and based the engine on it without doing much in the way of mechanical studies, it's a crap bike that had major problems for every year of its production. in one year alone they had to produce four different tipes of carbs for it because they didn't put in the work needed to produce a decent set of carbs. in short no i don't believe the cb-1 has any need of dampening rods, i take it up the dublin mountains and they are no great road i can tell you, and i've never had a problem with the steering.
