Gearing, not revving out.

Hi all,
Went on a fair old ride last week, from here to Burma, then down to Phuket for a bike show then back here, total 1,200km's in 1 weekend. It was bloody great except the bike doesn't want to rev out in high gears, 5th & top, lucky to get past 9,000rpm.
Not had my -1 for long but i noticed that the rear sprocket is 39 tooth as opposed to 41, not sure what the front is yet.
Could this be related? Anyone else had ths problem?
Cheers..

Should still rev. could be a problem with the induction from carbs to pistons, or just a problem with carbs, clean and rebalance them, also seeing as how you have not had your -1 long it might be worth taking the carbs off to see if it has been restricted. if it has it's only 4 washers that slot into the induction shafts. my previous -1 was restricted and would not rev above 10k rpm in 5&6th so sounds like a similar problem, if it's not reastricted then you're not getting enough fuel into the pistons. which should be easily rectified via the above advice. hope this helps.

I have 37 tooth rear and the bike will pull to the rev-limiter at 14,500 rpm in 5th gear but not 6th. In 6th it will run to about the redline 13,500 rpm then the wall of air interferes no matter how flat you tuck in. Same top speed it had with stock 41 tooth rear, just now it is in 5th, not 6th.
Front sprocket is stock 14 tooth.

I agree wth 91 I'd get into the carbs and see how it's jetted. When I got my bike the main jets were way too big (112s) and I had the same problem I would hit 8-9k rpms and it would buck and sputter. Some people over jet bikes not understanding how air intake and supporting mods work.

I am guessing if he is in Koh Samui, then he has the Japanese spec, would it still be a restrictor problem? I have been having a similar problem with mine between 110kph and 120kph ever since I removed the air box snorkels. Have you changed your gas with fresh stuff yet? How does your air filter look?
What part of Samui are you in? My wife and I honeymooned at Tongsai Bay in the northeast. Very beautiful island.

Air filter looks good, gonna take the carbs off tomorrow & have a look.
Iv'e been through about 10 tanks of fuel since i bought it, done a lot of miles.
I live in Bangrak, not far from Tongsai bay. Very nice there.
The roads on the island are shite tho', need to go to the mainland for a decent ride!

Yup both mine were imported from japan and restrictors are quite easy to get for them.

Ok, so i got the time last weekend to look at the carbs.
Once i got the float bowls off & removed the jets i noticed that i had 3 mains at 85 & 1 at 90
Checked the manual & found that the stock main shoul be 105!! Tried to get some 105's but the local shop is out,so i had to go with 110's for now.
I've a good idea that this should cure it, will have to go to the mainland next week to give it a good thrashing.......
Cheers for the pointers.
