Title: Cb400 fours, old and older
Post by: Spurlock on January 02, 2018, 09:08:57 PM
Honda's original CB400F was a marvelous bike, it was sewing machine smooth and had great performance for its time. I once owned it predecessor, the CB350F and restored a 1975 CB400f for a friend a couple years ago. Today that old friend and I took a ride together and it was interesting to compare and contrast the 1975 version to the '89 CB-1. They are both great bikes, totally capable and reliable. The CB-1 definitely sets a higher bar though!

Two mechanical jewels that were not well received by displacement hungry Americans when they were first sold here. Hard to believe that even the "modern" bike is almost 30 yrs. old.  :o

Yeah, since I was totally away from the sport between 1980 and 2000, both bikes seem like "current" technology to me.

I always think the CB-1 is quite a small bike but the old 400/4 looks tiny by comparison - almost like a modern Chinese 125. Still love them both  :)

shame us from across the pond (well some of us) can't seem to understand how wonderful a 400 in-line 4 with gear driven cams actually are.
Sad, if it's not a 1200cc or above and loses pieces along the way due to too much rattle its not considered worthy. So sad.
