Firstly check fuel is being to the carburettor in question by draining it using the drain screw.

Run the bike and refrain the effected carb, if it has fuel again after the start up then fuel is making is way to the card.

Next check for blocked meets within the carb you may need to unscrew them and good them upto a light source to see any blockages, compressed air will usually be enough to shift blockages but sometimes you need to physically clean the jet, use something that is soft and smaller than the orifice so that you do not accidentally enlarge the jet.

If after cleaning the carb you cannot get the cylinder to fire you will need to do a compression test.

they do a lighter blue than that on the vauxhalls

the last time mine was painted was with the renault clio colour.

the light blue colours tend to fade so matching the paint can be a pain, most paint shops will want the bike there anyway to match if you don't have the code.

a lot of the time even if you have the code the car paint schemes likely won't have the mix information for alot of bike colours

Renault Clio sport come in a very similar blue, as do some Vauxhall Corsa models.

For anyone looking to fit f3 forks into cb1 legs instead of having 20mm sticking above the handle bar clamps using the f3 legs, I have been out to the shed and took a few measurements,

It would seem that there are three issues with fitting the cbr600f3 internals into cb1 stanchions.

firstly because the stanchions on the cb1 are 20mm shorter when the cbr cartridge is fully compressed and the preload set to the first/stiffest notch the damper unit will protrude past the end of the standard cb1 stanchion by about 9mm (3mm or so sits in a recess in the slider) the protrusion would allow the valve stacks to come into contact before the fork is fully compressed/bottomed in the slider.

To stop the damper unit bottoming out and limiting wheel travel you would ideally shorten the internals (damper needle and rod) by 20mm to bring everything back into position and cut 20mm off the spring spacer to correct the preload. The damper lock nut is m10x1.0 thread.

people that do the same f3 swap on sv650 and bandits suffer the same problem because they share the same 613mm fork length as the cb1.

But after a bit of measuring you could probably get away with winding the preload adjuster out and adjusting the length of the internal spacer to compensate, this is because winding the preload adjuster out has the same effect as shortening the damper rod.

setting the preload to notch 5 and cutting the internal spacer down by only 14mm instead of 20 should result in 5-6mm internal clearance and a preload that is the same as the stock 3 notch setting, just remember to never wind the preload adjuster down past the third notch or you risk bottoming out again.

Secondly, because the CBR cartridge is a larger diameter they do not fit past the lower shuttles of the cb1 fork, you need to either

grind the end of the stanchion so that you can remove the shuttles from the CBR fork and install them into the cb1 stanchions, you will need a welder to do this also you need to drill 2 new 6mm oil holes 35mm further up the tube 180 to reach other.

Or you can modify the cb1 shuttles by removing the nylon flow restrictor and spring clip then grind a few mm from the four protrusions on the top out spring seat to allow the cartridge to pass through, you may still need to drill the extra holes to ensure the original shuttle doesn't effect the damping.


Thirdly (may not actually be an issue)

The f3 damper cartridge has 150mm of travel in total, fully assembled a cb1 fork measures 120mm from the end of the stanchion to the top of the damper rod cap, with shortened f3 internals the damper measures 125mm, the extra 5mm length shouldn't cause any functional issues it just means you need to add 5mm to your sag settings.

but if you do want to correct it you will need to fit a 5mm spacer between the top out spring and the stanchion.

for those that cut the internals there should clearance internally to take the spacer without limiting travel, you will just need to cut an extra 5mm off the preload adjuster.

for those that didn't shorten the f3 internals you will have to wind the preload adjuster fully out (notch 7) to compensate for a 5mm top out spacer, and you will not be able to go past notch 5 without risking losing travel/ bottoming on the dampers.

If you don't shorten the preload spacer the additional 5mm to compensate for the top out spacer would be the equivalent of having two extra notches of preload wound in.

There are china sellers on ebay selling fork stanchions for the cb1 for sub 100 delivered, no idea on quality but an option none the less.

temporarily you can run the hose from the tap straight to the carbs, just makes reserve pretty much redundant now that you are running on gravity.

the relay itself for the pump can go bad as well causing issues it is supposed to energize only when there are pulses from the cdi so that the fuel pump shuts off unless the engine is actually cranking/running, that is supposed to stop the bike flooding if it gets dropped and stalls.

The type 2 cb-1 (darker paint on frame/engine etc) had higher bars as standard. Still a clip on type but higher.

Perhaps if you source some of them along with cable etc it might be what you need.

If you want standard straight style handle bars there are many options for the upper yoke, cb750, cb400sf, cb500, various nt/NTV models.

Another thing to consider if moving to flat bars is the angle of the mirrors, clutch and brake levers etc, the standard ones are set up to be angled down slightly.



If you want to keep standard geometry with straight bars you will either need to live with the standard fork protruding from the top yoke or fit shorter forks

The groove that lines up on the standard fork/upper yoke is roughly 42mm below the snap ring so your new forks would need to be roughly 571mm long, nc29 forks are 570mm long and adjustable, so just slip them into your cb-1 sliders and you should be close to standard geometry with better forks.

The one in silver looks slightly bent probly worth straightening up, the collector can ground on tall curbs if you ride down them.

The breakage i would say is a combination of corrosion after market silencers and accidents stressing the steel over the years it is a very weak bracket.

My bike suffered this I was running an slip on can for a while and had to weld the bracket back back on.

The replacement frame from my donor bike had a standard exhaust and this joint looks in good shape.

Another thing to check even on Japanese spec bikes is the collars that the exhaust clamps to the head by, they are mild steel at the head end and WILL rot out allowing the header pipes to come loose, blow and vibrate

I have had to grind mine clean and build them back up with weld to get the square and flat.

If you still have the machined line around the tube where it protrudes from the upper yoke then they are likely standard stanchions, if they are smooth in that area they are likely off something else.

Either way it shouldn't matter all the seals and bushes should be same for pretty much all the 41mm honda forks.

I've got cb-1, NTV650, cb400sf and cbr600f3 forks in bits in the shed they all take the same service parts.

Cb-1 forks are 613mm long, cbr600 forks are 633mm long

really speaking if you fit cbr 600 internals into cb-1 stanchions you will need to shorten the preload spacer and damper rod/needle by 20mm.

Normally the forks bottoms out on the stanchion, but if the damper is longer than the fork travel it will bottom out on the damper valves instead risking damage.

I just did 138 miles from a full tank to reserve. (2.12 gallons according to the manual) which puts me at around 65 mpg but my speedometer seems a bit off. That would affect my mileage, right?

What gearing are you running?

standard 15-41 ratio is not very accurate, 15 -37 corrects the speedo pretty much and makes to bike much nicer to ride imo

later mk2 cb1 bars are slightly taller as well as certain vfr750 bars, for the stright bar conversions a cb400sf top yoke fits directly as well as the cb500 (not entirely sure on the second one), those will leave the forks sticking out the top though or you can buy clamp on adaptors to fit straight bars too
