Ended up painting the CB a BMW color called Lemans blue. It's a bit dark at night but the metallic really pops in the sun light. Painted in a friends garage and night time came while spraying clear over the decals, so a few bugs in the paint but all in all I think it looks good. I'm trying to post a few pictures but can't seem to shrink them down.

I'm really liking these Bridgestone Evo S20 radials for this bike. What a great feeling on the roads today.

That's a classy looking blue with a great pedigree you chose there Paul. Nice one. Did you use a spray gun or cans? What base and preparation did you use?

Is the other CB-1 behind in the last shot also yours?

There's a theory proposed in one of the reviews of the CB-1 that it might not have been well received by the wider market due to Honda choosing to paint it blue. The article points out that the first 400 Four in 1978 was red, and maybe it's 1989 successor should have also been red.

I'm planning to repaint mine over the winter, and I to and fro with this idea several times a day. I really need to see a CB-1 in Honda Racing red before I decide. I may try mocking up a red colour scheme on the computer.

But my mind keep going back to thoughts:

There are already a lot of Red Hondas

Maybe that original Japanese deep blue, or the one you used, really suits the bike better.

All I know for sure is it won't be orange, green or yellow, or white.

Shot with a gun. Sanded all the parts, used a heavy primer to fill all the sanding marks and some imperfections in the fiberglass fairing, sanded again, shot the blue, decals, then clear coat with hardener.

The red bike is my Honda Hawk GT.

I also thought about using the 1978 red color and the original decal set from that same year (available on eBay). But ultimately went with blue.

Another member recommended the BMW Interlagos blue, which might have been a better choice as its more of a medium than a dark blue. I was just worried about a slight purple tint in that color.

Whatever you decide, the clear coat is a must do.  It really gives the paint a depth.

Looks great, well done.

I've a little bit fallen for mercedes brilliant blue, saw a wagon in that colour in the local dealer window. One day when time and money permit,  i would like to get the body done in that colour.

Thanks Paul. Sorry about the confusion over the red bike in the background. It looked like a -1 on my phone!!

I'm liking BMW Interlagos blue quite a lot. Even more so having read the BMW car owners arguing over it on the net. They all play golf and compare themselves to others constancy in a less than healthy way. Plus, it's a blue that's closer to what I had in mind, and on smaller areas, most issues diminish. But a colour that looks different in different lights is interesting.

And BMW Interlagos blue lends itself to adding the Mk2 Honda wings. And since the engine needs painting (and Honda engine silver is hardest to replicate) and the frame needs repainting... Wink

Does anyone have a source for the MK2 rear cowl decals which read "CB-1 Cam Gear Train"?
